Jenna Ortega is quite known for her bold choices in cinema and the actress is one of the top choices to take part in a remake of a beloved film from the early 90s. The 1992 erotic thriller Single White Female is all set to get remade with a fresh take, and Ortega is one of the top choices to lead the film, along with Taylor Russell. The original film starred Bridget Fonda as Allie Jones and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Hedy Carlson.

Sony and Elizabeth Gabler’s 3000 Pictures will be behind the remake, but it's not yet clear who might direct and write the film. Barbet Schroeder was the director for Single White Female and seeing as he is still active, he might make a return for the new version of the film.

Although not much is known about the project as of now, the casting choices do look quite promising, seeing as Russell and Ortega are both wonderful choices for the genre, given their background in similar projects. Ortega is known for her role in Wednesday and Scream, while Russell has starred in films like Bones and All and Words on Bathroom Walls.

What is Single White Female about?

The plot of the film revolves around Allie Jones, a software designer in New York who is looking for a new roommate after parting ways with her partner, who cheated on her. She ends up choosing a girl, Hedy Carlson, who is sweet to her and turns out to be a good choice. They hit it off as Hedy continues to support Allie through her heartbreak, but as their friendship progresses, Hedy's more obsessive and toxic side surfaces. She starts imitating Allie as well.

As Sam fixes things, Hedy's possessiveness intensifies. She manipulates situations and builds up interactions to take Allie away from Sam. When Allie realizes Hedy's creepy nature and how she has been imitating her, she begins investigating her background. She finds out that Hedy had a twin sister who drowned as a child, suggesting intense psychological trauma.

Hedy's fixation becomes violent. In a creepy sequence, she seduces and kills Sam, thinking he is a threat to her affair with Allie. When Allie realizes the danger, she tries to flee, but Hedy takes her hostage. A tense struggle of wits and survival unfolds in their apartment, ending in a violent confrontation in which Allie defends herself. In a final struggle, Allie kills Hedy. As the epilogue of Single White Female rolls, she is seen to have forgiven Hedy for Sam's murder and forgiven herself for killing Hedy.

Single White Female is available to watch on Prime Video.
