James Gunn's Superman is less than five months away, and as fans prepare for the superhero's return to screens, director James Gunn is lifting the veil on more details about his version of the hero.
Gunn disclosed that, among other things such as suspense, thrills, and of course, mind-blowing action, the Superman movie will deliver its best when it comes to humor. The director told Matthew Belloni in The Town,
"I have been told by people at Warners that there's a lot of humor in [Superman]."
He further elaborated on what brand of humor Superman will likely have as he explained,
"I learned so much from making [the Guardians of the Galaxy] movies. But it’s not like 'Superman' is going to have exactly the same vibe as a 'Guardians' movie. It’s actually quite different. People like Rachel [Brosnahan] are so funny and David [Corenswet] is very [funny as well], so there's humor in it, but it's trying to create something that is grounded, but also it's an incredibly fanciful world."
Humor is most certainly an important aspect of most superhero films, be it the Marvel Universe which constantly deployed humor as a mechanism to deal with even serious events that altered the lives of the Avengers; or the DC universe, where every film lands a few successful jabs at slapstick humor.
