David Corenswet is all set to step into the DC as the studio's latest Superman, as the new portrayal will explore the hero's origins and Kryptonian heritage. Helmed by James Gunn as the studio's first project under his creative control, the film will be his first collaboration alongside Peter Safran and the beginning of the DCEU's new era. As Corenswet kicks off a new beginning for DC, James Gunn shared his insights on the actor with whom he is working for the first time.

In an interview published by TIME Magazine, Gunn wrote about how he had one condition for working with the actor: that he treated everyone involved in the film with kindness and respect. The director brought back his good experiences of working with actors like Chris Pratt and John Cena, who treated everyone with respect. As he continued to praise Corenswet's work ethic, he added,

"I’ve seen sets that cater to an actor or director’s ego and that’s just not something that would happen with David. He is Superman, even in his nerdiness. He listens to old jazz standards. Like that’s what he listens to, just as normal procedure. Like Superman, he’s a simple man in complicated times.”

Further adding on to his experience working with the actor, who, according to James Gunn, asks a ton of questions, he continued,

“David’s a pain in the a*s because he asks a ton of questions about every single little moment. But I honestly think my favorite moments were when I would get irritated by his endless questions and indulge him anyway, and then I’d see him turn those questions into something magical in his performance.”

More details about David Corenswet's Superman

David Corenswet is the tenth actor to pick up the iconic red cape and blue suit of the superhero as the film explores the hero's origin story and how he navigates through his powers and abilities while also leading life as Clark Kent.

Starring alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Corenswet is being joined by Nathan Fillion, who is playing Green Lantern aka Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Teschmacher, Terence White as Otis, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, among others.

The official synopsis for the film reads,

“James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a SUPERMAN who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”

Superman is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025
