During a March 20 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Amanda Seyfried opened up about the reason behind turning down the role of Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy. The role later ended up going to Zoe Saldana. Gamora is the adopted daughter of Thanos and the last of her species.

The actress mentioned that she thought taking the role would tank her career,

"I was really scared of the idea of being stuck and painted a different color because of the amount of time (it takes). It was a giant opportunity. I had just met James in person. He is wonderful. Apparently someone said he didn't remember but it's definitely true. I definitely got the offer for it and I mulled it over for a couple of days."

The actress also mentioned that she did not want to live in London for six months out of the year, and ended up choosing to work in A Million Ways to Die in the West.

"Let's also remember that being a part of the first Marvel movie that bombs ain't good for your career. I thought that because this was about a talking tree and a talking racoon that it was gonna be Marvel's first bomb and that Chris Pratt and I would never work again. I was wrong! But I was just being smart. It's not brave."

"He's a genius and he's fun and he's a wonderful filmmaker" - says Amanda Seyfried about James Gunn

While Amanda Seyfried revealed that she rejected the chance to play the role of Gamora in MCU, she has only praise for the franchise's director,

"He's a genius and he's fun and he's a wonderful filmmaker, and he can make anything work. But I was way too scared. I was at a precarious moment in my career, and I didn't want to suffer for the work."

The Mean Girls star went on to mention that she does not regret her decision. The actress was recently seen in the role of police officer Mickey Fitzpatrick in the new Peacock limited series, Long Bright River which was released on March 13.

While speaking to People magazine, about her role, Amanda Seyfried said that she "always wanted to play a cop" and it has been a "childhood dream to play somebody that I just was always in awe of." The crime drama miniseries is based on Liz Moore's book of the same name.
