In a recent interview on Capital FM, Kate Hudson revealed that she turned down the lead role of Andrea "Andy" Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada and later regretted it. Anne Hathaway eventually took on the role, starring alongside Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.

While explaining why she turned down the role, Kate Hudson stated that "it was a timing thing." She elaborated:

"That was a bad call. It was a timing thing, it was one of those things where I couldn't do it, and I should've made it happen, and I didn't. That was one where when I saw it I was like, "Ugh."

The movie went on to become a box office hit, earning $327 million, and received two-time Academy Award nominations. AA sequel is reportedly in early development, with Anne Hathaway mentioning the possibility during an appearance on The View in 2022. Aline Brosh McKenna is in talks to write the next chapter of the film. Hathaway commented:

"I don't know if there can be (a sequel). I just think that movie was in a different era. Now everything's gone so digital and that movie is centered around the concept of producing a physical thing and it's just, it's just very different."

The Devil Wears Prada (2006) was inspired by Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name, which tells the story of a young personal assistant to a powerful fashion magazine editor. Weisberger released a sequel to the original book, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, in 2013.

"And it just sucked, you know?" Kate Hudson opens up about turning down lead role

While revealing that she regretted turning down the role of Andy in The Devil Wears Prada, Kate Hudson mentioned that there were "waves of things" happening at the time:

"It's funny. It's waves of things that are happening and people shooting at different times. It's not like you don't do them because you don't want to do them. It's like, 'Oh, you're doing something else.' And it just sucked, you know."

Kate Hudson had a busy schedule when the movie was released in 2006, as she was working on lead roles in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), You, Me and Dupree (2006), The Skeleton Key (2005), Fool's Gold (2008), and My Best Friend's Girl (2008).

Before the role ultimately went to Anne Hathaway, director David Frankel had also offered it to Rachel McAdams, Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, and Kirsten Dunst.
