Ryan Gosling got on stage with Star Wars director Shawn Levy at the Star Wars celebration in Japan on April 18 to announce that he will be in the new Star Wars movie. Star Wars Starfighter is scheduled to release on May 28, 2027, three weeks after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
While speaking with Access Hollywood and announcing the news, Gosling mentioned that he has been a Star Wars fan since his childhood and showed a picture of his childhood Star Wars bedsheets on the screen, which were sent by his mom. Gosling said,
"I was dreaming of Star Wars before I ever saw it, it's always been there, it's sort of in the DNA, the culture, myself."
He added,
"The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It's filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn."
Soon after, the image of his Star Wars bedsheet popped up on the screen, and Ryan continued saying,
"She still has them, obviously. Naturally, she thought that it might be something that the fans would appreciate, but I suspect that she just sort of wants to justify years of hoarding. As you can see from the picture, I guess I was probably dreaming about Star Wars before I even saw the film. And it's probably framed my idea of what a movie even was."
Gosling's role in the movie is yet to be announced.
"May the fans be with us," says Ryan Gosling
While announcing his appearance in the next Star Wars movie in Japan on April 18, Ryan Gosling appreciated the franchise fans at the end of the presentation, saying,
"Being here and seeing all of you (makes it) more inspiring to do it. There's so much creativity and imagination in this room and there's so much love. It's such a great reminder of how much movies can mean to us, specifically how much these movies mean to us. The force is a mysterious thing, but, as I'm here, the force is the fans. All we can hope for is, 'May the fans be with us.'"
Gosling's participation in the Star Wars Starfighter is his most anticipated role currently after his appearance as Ken in Mattel's Barbie in 2023.
