Businesswoman and philanthropist Tina Knowles recently opened up about her breast cancer battle in the latest issue of People. Mother to Solange and global pop icon Beyoncé, Tina discussed her shocking diagnosis, as well as talked about her brand-new memoir, Matriarch, fame, love, and loss.
The 71-year-old businesswoman, who is also a fashion designer, was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in her left breast. The unfortunate news came soon after Tina and Beyoncé launched their Cécred hair-care line. While talking about her cancer diagnosis for the first time, Tina told People:
"It's important not to slack on your mammograms."
Tina continued saying:
"I struggled with whether I would share that journey [in the book] because I'm very private. But I decided to share it because I think it's a lot of lessons in it for other women."
The author of Matriarch added:
"And I think as women, sometimes we get so busy and we get so wrapped up and running around, but you must go get your test. Because if I had not gotten my test early, I mean, I shudder to think what could have happened to me."
As Tina warned other women about getting tested, she confessed that she missed her scheduled mammogram. She explained:
"I forgot that I didn't go to get my test two years before I thought I had, because Covid came and they called me and canceled me and they said, we'll call you when we start testing again. And I just thought I had done it. So you cannot play around with that."
Tina informed People that she is currently doing fine and is completely healthy. Her surgery to remove the tumor took place at the end of 2024. She also underwent a breast reduction. However, she claimed that she is doing great, as she is cancer-free and grateful to God that she was lucky enough to find out about it early. She also mentioned that she is eating better these days, feels healthier, and has lost weight.
Tina, after going through this entire experience, sees herself as an example of what could be possible. She said:
"I want to give people hope. What scares me now is not making the best of every day that I have left in this life."
In her memoir, Tina Knowles reveals how her daughters dealt with the cancer news

In her recently released memoir, Matriarch, Tina revealed how her daughters, Solange and Beyoncé, dealt with the news of her cancer diagnosis. Talking about Beyoncé in her memoir, Tina wrote:
"(Beyoncé) took it well, staying positive, and I could already feel her mind racing, focusing on this as a task to tackle with precision."
Her younger daughter, Solange, said:
"Mom, we are going to take care of this."
