Real Time with Bill Maher host, Bill Maher, who has been a long-time critic of President Donald Trump, took to X on April 1 to share an update on his dinner with Trump.
"Hey everybody, thank you for all the interest in my dinner with the president last night - I promise, all will be revealed on the next @RealTimers on April 11. As it's April 1, no one would believe what I said today anyway."
A week before the dinner, in an April 23 episode of his podcast, Bill Maher, while speaking to Andrew Schultz, noted that he had accepted Kid Rock's attempt to facilitate the dinner between the two.
While Maher has shown a dislike for the President, he noted that Trump is worth listening to since he did win the election.
"You also have to respect that the guy did win. It’s half the country. I keep saying it: you can not like Trump – you can hate him. You can’t hate everybody that voted for him. … I don’t hate half the county and I don’t want to hate half the country. It’s an honor to be invited to White House under any circumstances.”
Donald Trump said he's looking forward to meeting Bill Maher
In a March 27 post on Truth Social, Donald Trump said that he's looking forward to meeting comedian Bill Maher, despite his criticism of him. Trump noted that Kid Rock had set the meeting up between the two.
"I got a call from a very good guy, and friend of mine, Kid Rock, asking me whether or not it would be possible for me to meet, in the White House, with Bill Maher, a man who has been unjustifiably critical of anything, or anyone, TRUMP. I really didn't like the idea much, and don't like it much now, but thought it would be interesting."
Back then, Trump had mentioned that he had agreed to the meeting as a "favor to a friend" and considered the possibility of Maher criticising him regardless.
"The problem is, no matter how much he likes your Favorite President, ME, he will publicly proclaim what a terrible guy I am, etc."
Maher had earlier mentioned that while he would go to the meeting with an open mind, the meeting would not turn him into a Trump supporter, and he would not be leaving the dinner in a "MAGA hat." Donald Trump has yet to update on his experience of meeting Maher.
