Former US President Donald Trump came under fire for his makeup during the 2024 Presidential debate on September 10, with social media figures like James Charles weighing in. Online users pointed out that Trump's complexion appeared excessively orange.
James Charles, an LGBTQ activist with more than one million followers on Instagram, shared a TikTok video where he was seen criticizing the former president’s makeup. He raised concerns about the choice of foundation shade and questioned the makeup artist behind it. Charles added:
“It literally looks like he stepped out of a f*****g Simpsons episode. B***h, guest starred in The Lego movie. It’s giving liver failure with jaundice. It’s like is he okay? God, I f*****g hope not.”
One user on X appeared confused about why Donald Trump's makeup wasn’t applied evenly. Others suggested that his makeup artist should improve, questioning the choice of orange foundation. Another person compared Trump's appearance during the debate to a 'powdered cinnamon donut.'
In the TikTok video, James Charles mentioned that even though he had embarrassing foundation moments before, Trump’s makeup mishap has put ‘flowers to bury the shame.’ While pointing his phone’s camera to the TV screen, Charles said one could easily tell the makeup artist stopped blending in between the eyebrows, ears, and around his cheeks and mouth.
However, the TikTok video received backlash from netizens with many social media users advising netizens to ignore Charles's remarks. Numerous X users labeled him "sick" and suggested he needed help.
James Charles said that the previous Presidential debate between Biden and Trump was a pathetic excuse for a TV program
After the previous Presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, James Charles posted a TikTok saying that he needed an Adderall prescription (a drug used in treating patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) to recommend to Joe Biden.
The TikTok video which went viral showed Charles expressing anger over Trump and Biden being the only two candidates for the position.
“That Presidential debate was the most embarrassing f*****g pathetic excuse for a television program I have ever seen in my life. How are these two one thousand-year-old f*****g corpses are only two options for President? Ah, we do not live in a democracy. This is not a democracy. The American political system is f****d,” James Charles said.
According to him, a complete overhaul was needed, as both political parties were ineffective. Charles said it was baffling why individuals who were nearly 100 years old were still allowed to hold office. He added during the debate, that every time Joe Biden closed his eyes, it seemed like he might not reopen them, giving the impression he might pass away on stage.
The social media influencer claimed that Biden had difficulty articulating clear thoughts, while Trump spoke freely without hesitation. James Charles also criticized the moderators from that debate for not interrupting them from spreading misinformation to the public. He also said the episode was embarrassing for the Democratic party as he felt Joe Biden was not the right person to run for President.
