James McAvoy says his celebrity crush is Jennifer Aniston. During his appearance on Watch What Happens Live! on the September 11 episode, James McAvoy recalls meeting his celebrity crush, Jennifer Aniston, at a party.
"I was at a party when I was really young, I was like 22, in L.A., and I met Lucy Liu and Lucy Liu was really, really nice to me, and she was like, 'Come meet my friends'. I got parked right beside Jennifer Aniston. And just as (Liu) was like, 'Hey guys, meet my new friend James' instead of saying that, she got pulled aside by a guy she went to high school with."
James revealed that as his acquaintance Lucy went away with someone else, he was left standing among her friends. While addressing the Friends star, James said, "So you're Jennifer Aniston and you're in Friends," and recalled the moment saying:
"It was rough but she was lovely."
James McAvoy relationship timeline
James McAvoy's crush on Jennifer Aniston remained just a crush, and the Speak No Evil actor went on to marry Lisa Liberati in a private ceremony in 2021.
The two met in 2016 during the filming of Split, where Lisa worked as a production assistant. The couple kept their interactions out of the media's eye and were first seen together in public in 2017.
Although the two did not issue a public statement announcing their relationship, they started making appearances together at popular Hollywood events like the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018.
McAvoy posted a Halloween picture of the two in colorful wigs and matching hoodies in 2019. The actor was previously married to Anne-Marie Duff from 2006 to 2016, and the couple shares a son, Brendan.
In a joint statement, they announced their divorce and said that they would enter the next phase with "continued friendship, love, and respect for one another."
During a conversation with Mr Porter in 2017, while opening up about how his life changed after the divorce, McAvoy said he intends to keep his personal life private:
"Me and Anne-Marie, when we were together, it was our policy not to speak about each other in public. We rarely broke that and if we did, it was for tiny things - 'Yes, we are cooking turkey this Christmas' - and that policy still stands."
He also continued to say that they're respectful to each other and "committed to doing that publicly and personally."
