“It was just absolutely insane…” - When Hilaria Baldwin used this tactic to 'mess with' paparazzi to 'protect' husband Alec

Hilaria Baldwin, the wife of actor Alec Baldwin, revealed that she dressed up as a "mob wife" to distract the paparazzi who had been waiting outside their home once. According to People Magazine, this was around the time when Alec Baldwin was indicted for a second time in January 2024 in relation to discharging a prop firearm on the sets of his film Rust, which caused the death of Halyna Hutchins, a cinematographer.

To catch the attention of paparazzi gathered outside their home to photograph Alec Baldwin, Hilaria dressed up in the famous "mob wife aesthetic," wearing fishnet stockings, a miniskirt, oversized sunglasses, and a shiny jacket. She distracted the photographers as her husband got into a car and drove off unnoticed.

Hilaria Baldwin spoke about the incident in a recent episode of The Baldwins, which features her alongside her husband and children. Hilaria and Alec Baldwin are also credited as producers of the show.

Hilaria, speaking about her brush with the paparazzi, said,

"They're all there, I got mobbed in the morning. It was just absolutely insane…Alec needed to try to get in the car and to try to protect him, I went inside, put on a ridiculous outfit and went back outside…I mean, the fact that they didn't realize that I was messing with them is extraordinary”

Continuing, she elaborated on how she distracted the paparazzi so her husband could slip off without catching their attention, saying,

“I put my back to the corner so their back was to the apartment, and then we had a car pull up. Alec goes into the car [and] drives off. Then, I walked right back to the house.”

Her tactics seem to have worked, as a New York Post report from last year featured her images from the incident. The report mentioned that the public appearance was Hilaria's first since Alec Baldwin was indicted for the second time. Hilaria could be seen talking on her phone while standing in a corner, and the article noted that she headed back into her home after speaking on the phone. The article also described the fashion phenomenon of the "mob wife," a style popularized by Hollywood mob films.

Hilaria Baldwin, a yoga teacher, mother of 7, and a former correspondent for an entertainment show, is also a newly minted author waiting to release her book, Manual Not Included.

In an interview with People Magazine, a snippet was posted to Instagram on February 11, and the couple sat down to discuss why they decided to do The Baldwins. Hilaria said,

“We said yes to a reality show because we found the right people to do it with. Telling your story is one thing and showing your story is something else. And it wasn’t about stirring up any drama, we have plenty of that on our own. And it just, it felt authentic, it felt human.”

Hilaria and Alec have been transparent about the motivation behind their show, which chronicles their lives following the unfortunate shooting incident.
