Vince Vaughn recently visited Donald Trump in the Oval Office. The White House’s official handle on social media also shared a picture of the Break-Up star's visit. The post shared on X and Instagram referred to the actor and the US President as “The White House Crashers,” a pun on the former’s 2005 romcom Wedding Crashers.

While it is not the first time Vaughn is in the news for meeting Trump, he hasn't officially endorsed the Grand Old Party (GOP) president in the past. Unlike most Trump supporters, the Mr. & Mrs. Smith actor is not a Republican. Instead, Vince Vaughn is a self-proclaimed Libertarian who has supported Ron Paul and his son, Rand, during their respective presidential campaigns.

Libertarianism.org defines a Libertarian as someone who considers liberty “the most important value. According to the website,

“Libertarians believe that, in politics, liberty is the most important value. Almost everyone wants freedom for themselves, but a libertarian also seeks to protect and expand the freedom of others. When people are free, we can create a more just, more prosperous, safer, and better world for everyone.”

Vince Vaughn, a self-identified Libertarian, endorsed Ron Paul twice

Ron Paul, who is also a Libertarian, was a GOP candidate in 2008 and 2012 when Vince Vaughn endorsed him. Like his father, Rand Paul was also a Republican when he received support from the actor in 2016.

Speaking about his political leaning and endorsements, Vince Vaughn once said in a past Interview published in Playboy magazine (via Advocates for Self-Government’s Liberator Online newsletter),

“I would use the term libertarian to describe my politics. I’m a very big fan [of Ron Paul]. Ron Paul woke a lot of people up to the fact that government can’t handle everything for you.”

In the same interview, he also explained a lack of trust in the government,

“Trusting the federal government to know what we need and to run things well feels like a bad idea. You see that in the foreign policy of force, where the United States decides to go into another country to make things turn out a certain way. It doesn’t work. It causes more problems…”

Besides his trust issues with the federal government, Vince Vaughn is also a vocal critic of gun control. In a 2015 GQ interview, the Hacksaw Ridge actor said,

“I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don't have the right to bear arms because of burglars We have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government."

Vaughn also added,

"It's not about duck hunting; it's about the ability of the individual. It's the same reason we have freedom of speech.”

Vince Vaughn previously went viral in 2020 for a brief meeting with Donald Trump

Vaughn might not have supported Trump ever, but his brief meeting with the then-45th US President went viral a few years back. The Internship actor met the GOP leader in January 2020 at an NCAA National Championship game. Vince Vaughn was seen shaking hands with Donald Trump.

After the meeting, a grainy video of the president and the Thumbsucker star went viral. The Libertarian actor received much backlash on social media, which he later addressed during an interview with the LA Times.

“In my career I’ve met a lot of politicians who I’ve always been cordial to; I’ve met Nancy Pelosi and was cordial to her as well [...] It was the only time I’ve ever met him. We said hello. He was very personable. I didn’t get into policies.”

During the interview, Vaughn said he greeted then-Democratic strategist James Carville at the game. He also clarified that he doesn’t support Donald Trump and has only endorsed Ron Paul, a Libertarian and a former Republican.
