The Kissing Booth 2 was Taylor Zakhar Perez’s first prominent role that launched him into the spotlight. The film gained widespread popularity and was viewed by 66 million users in the first 28 days of its release on Netflix, according to Variety Magazine. Despite being disparaged by critics, The Kissing Booth series exploded upon the release of its first film in 2018, with users returning to watch it multiple times, according to NBC News

The Kissing Booth series was led by actors Joey King and Jacob Elordi (who is known for HBO's Euphoria) who play love interests, Elle and Noah respectively. In the second edition of the film, Taylor Zakhar Perez’s Marco comes between Elle and Noah, disrupting their romance.

The friendship between Taylor Zakhar Perez and Joey King

Joey King, who has starred in The Act and We Were The Lucky Ones, attended the SAG Awards as the “plus one” of Perez in 2024, and this year, she described that Perez was her “plus one,” as quoted in People Magazine. Rumors of her being in a relationship with Perez had arisen when the two took a scenic vacation together.

However, Perez was quick to dismiss the speculation on an episode of the Chicks in the Office podcast, where he said he wasn’t dating King. Perez said,

“We love each other dearly…everyone is trying to make something out of it but it's fine. It’s you know, it’s like hey I would love to be dating Joey King, like she's dope.”

According to an interview with Variety, both Perez and King have shared that they have been ardent friends since The Kissing Booth days. King described their friendship blooming during rehearsals for The Kissing Booth’s dancing scenes. Perez added that the shooting of the film, which took place in South Africa, also contributed to their deep friendship.

King said,

“If you don’t know much about 'The Kissing Booth 2' and '3,' Taylor and I have some elaborate dance numbers, so we really got to know each other while doing rehearsals. I remember you asked me a question in the middle of filming — 'Do you normally stay friends with people that you work with? Or do you get really close to them on set, and then you just don’t talk to them very much afterwards?'”

Continuing, King explained,

“It was a sweet question because I felt like the subtext was like, ‘Are we going to be friends after this?’ And I told you, ‘It depends.’”

Perez added,

“It does depend. But we were together; we had rehearsals and then went to South Africa for five months.”

King, who has been married to producer and director Steven Piet since 2023, emphasized the importance of Perez’s friendship in the interview. She told Perez,

“You visited me in Romania, where we were filming ‘We Were the Lucky Ones’ for seven months. I was so appreciative. I missed you so much, and I was so happy you came.”

While it's clear that Taylor Zakhar Perez and Joey King are friends in the industry who support and encourage each other, Elle Magazine has noted that Perez has also been linked to his Red, White & Royal Blue co-star, Nicholas Galitzine.
