Why was Paul Rodriguez arrested?

According to TMZ, Paul Rodriguez was arrested on Friday for alleged possession of drugs in a car that he was in. The car the actor was traveling in was pulled over by the cops for a traffic violation. While the comedian was allegedly in the passenger seat, the case got much more serious when narcotics were found in the vehicle.

Rodriguez was arrested for the alleged possession. While talking to the publication, the 70-year-old said that the drugs belonged to his friend who was driving. Moreover, she has allegedly admitted to the police that the narcotics were hers. However, it was Rodriguez who was arrested as it was his car. The vehicle was also seized.

He has a few allegations against the police, as he alleged one of the officers was seemingly racially motivated. The officer, per Paul, allegedly slapped him to wake him up when he was asleep in the passenger seat.

Paul Rodriguez's attorney, Bobby Samini has rejected all charges against him. He told the publication that Rodriguez cooperated with law enforcement, but the vehicle's driver was in possession of the drugs.

"Mr. Rodriguez was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over by the Burbank Police Department last night. He fully cooperated with law enforcement at all times. Law enforcement asserted that the driver of the vehicle was in possession of a controlled substance."
"Mr. Rodriguez did not have any controlled substance in his possession, nor was he under the influence of any controlled substance," Samini added.

He further accused the Burbank police of violating the comedian's civil rights and alleged that they would take the case to court.

"Mr. Rodriguez’s arrest and treatment constituted a violation of his civil rights. We look forward to establishing Mr. Rodriguez’s innocence in a court of law."

The Burbank police revealed that Paul Rodriguez was released for misdemeanor narcotics possession. Moreover, the case will be sent to the city attorney to move forward. While Rodriguez has been released, his friend, who was driving, is currently being held for warrants.
