Disney's Maleficent 3 is happening, and we have some new updates.
As per a fresh report by Deadline about the writer of the Maleficent film series, it has been revealed that Maleficent 3 is being penned by Linda Woolverton.
It has been six years since the last released film of this franchise came out, that is, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. It is a continuation of the OG 2014 film Maleficent.
However, the forthcoming part 3 might continue from where the story ended in its second installment.
The film series is iconic for Angelina Jolie's portrayal of the character. There is a high chance of her returning as the character in this third installment, even though no official confirmation or announcement has been made about its cast.
Let us find out more details about the forthcoming Maleficent 3.
Is Maleficent 3 happening? New updates are in
Per Deadline, the scripting of Maleficent 3 is in the works, with Linda Woolverton as the writer.
Woolverton has consecutively written the screenplay of the previous two installments of the Maleficent film series. For the Mistress of Evil, she had jointly written the script with Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue.
Linda Woolverton is notable for having written scripts for iconic Disney films, including Beauty and the Beast (1991), Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993), The Lion King (1994), and many more.
The makers have not disclosed any plot details yet, but we can assume that Maleficent 3 could pick from where Mistress of Evil had left.
At the end of Mistress of Evil, we witness Maleficent to be transforming back into her fairy version. Followed by the union of Aurora and Philip, Maleficent goes back to Moors. The film ends with the hope that Maleficent shall come back soon to visit Aurora to name the couple's unborn child.
Although no cast details of the upcoming third installment of Maleficent have been revealed yet, we are hopeful that the original cast members from the previous film, including Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Harris Dickinson, Michelle Pfeiffer, etc., return to their roles for the film.
Upon the release of the first Maleficent film in 2014, it was a huge success. According to Box Office Mojo, it had garnered up to a global box collection of a whopping $759,853,685.
However, the collection of its sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, had witnessed a significant drop, as it managed to collect a sum of $491,730,089 worldwide.
