Eugene Henley, also known as Big U, is being charged with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Henley, who has reportedly been affiliated with a mafia-like organization known as the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips street gang, is being accused of helming a criminal enterprise linked to racketeering crimes like extortion, human trafficking, fraud, as well as the 2021 slaying of rapper Rayshawn Williams.

In the wake of these accusations, the spotlight is turning to his son, Daiyan Henley, who has forged his path in the NFL by being drafted for his hometown Los Angeles Chargers. The elder Henley shares Daiyan with his wife, Stacey Henley. The pair are renowned for having launched the non-profit organization, Developing Options, Inc.

As for Stacey Henley, she was born and raised in Santa Monica, having graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1985. She later attended Saint Augustine’s University in North Carolina. She met Big U in 1984, and during their time together, the pair welcomed four children together, three sons and one daughter.

Everything we know about the case against Eugene Henley:

Federal authorities were on the lookout for Eugene Henley, and he was briefly declared a fugitive, though he has since been arrested and charged after he turned himself in on Wednesday.

“The allegations in the complaint unsealed today reveal a criminal enterprise that engaged in murder, extortion, human trafficking, and fraud – all led by a supposed anti-gang activist and purported music entrepreneur who was nothing more than a violent street criminal,” Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph McNally said on Wednesday, per USA Today.

Henley was one of the 18 members of the Los Angeles-based street gang, and apart from Henley, 10 other gang members were arrested this week. In addition to Henley, two other men from the same gang, Sylvester Robinson, 59, and Mark Martin, 50, aka Vey and Bear Claw, respectively, were also charged with the same criminal complaint on Wednesday.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Eugene Henley's alleged victims “were required to ‘check in’” with him before coming into the city to ascertain “protection,” as outlined in the 107-page federal complaint issued on Wednesday. Victims allegedly include professional athletes and musicians, the documents state.

Per the outlet, federal authorities are accusing Eugene Henley's “Big U Enterprise” of being a “mafia-like organization” that relied on his

“stature and long-standing association with the Rollin’ 60s and other street gangs to intimidate businesses and individuals”

in Los Angeles.

Henley “has maintained the image of an entertainment industry entrepreneur running a music label and of somebody who gives back to the community here in Los Angeles,” McNally said at the news conference. “The facts alleged in the complaint paint a very different picture. It is one of a murderer, a thief, a liar and a cheat and the criminals that enabled him.”

According to the attorney, the arrests made are part of an ongoing initiative

"To make our communities safer and rid our streets of these criminal street gangs, including ones operated by violent felons like Mr. Henley ... a widely known leader within the Rollin’ 60s.”

At the time of writing, Eugene Henley's attorneys have yet to issue a statement. However, before he turned himself in, he took videos of himself refuting these allegations. “I ain’t did nothing," he can be heard saying, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
