Amid his Anita Max Win Tour in Australia, Drake announced that he would be dropping a collaborative record with PARTYNEXTDOOR. The two have teamed up to make several hits in the past, including Come and See Me, Recognize, Loyal, Preach, and several others. This prompted eager fans to deliberate on what they could expect from the duo on $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.
Now, over a week since its release, the 21-track R&B album has garnered all sorts of fan reactions from a variety of social media users, who’ve taken to their favorite platforms to express their thoughts on Drake’s latest.
Of all the songs on the record, the overwhelming sentiment seems to be that the pair have a hit on their hands with Nokia. Drake does not appear to be taking himself too seriously on the heels of last year's mega beef with Kendrick Lamar, and one would think that this bodes well for Drizzy’s 2025 campaign.
Drake’s ‘Nokia’ - Best Reactions So Far
Nokia is interestingly one of the few songs on the collaborative album that’s credited solely to Drake. The production was not handled by someone from the Toronto native’s homegrown OVO hit squad but by sought-after UK producer Elkan, who also provides backing vocals. While the song’s streaming numbers were relatively low over the week, they saw a massive spike on Friday, just in time for the weekend. Fans seem to love the vibe and playfulness of the record, two qualities that seem to make it an earworm that has captivated the zeitgeist. It’s the perfect singalong tune, too, and gives off some markedly 80’s hip-hop energy in terms of Drake’s delivery.
$ome $exy $ongs 4U at a Glance
$ome $exy $ongs 4 U released on Valentine’s Day and Gimme a Hug was the first track to take off. In it, Drake addresses his beef with Kendrick Lamar, his friends, and his place in the game. It’s also the only song on the album where Drizzy raps throughout the duration of the tune. The most memorable bar appears in the hook, where Drake sticks to his guns and shares his outlook on the coming year in the aftermath of his infamous feud.
“They be dropping sh*t, but we be dropping harder sh*t/F*ck a rap beef, I’m tryna get the party lit”
CN Tower, Raining in Houston, Greedy, and Die Trying appear to be the other consensus standouts on the album.
