Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory, the co-founder of the notorious Black Mafia Family, has been released from federal prison to a halfway house.
As such, interest in his family has been reignited, with many questioning if his on-screen counterpart on the Starz series BMF is related to him. Demetrius Flenory Jr., 24, played his father, Big Meech, on the show and is also his son in real life.
According to TMZ, Big Meech was transferred to the halfway house on Tuesday, October 15, where he will serve out the rest of his sentence. He was previously detained at the FCI Coleman Low in Wildwood, having been convicted for money laundering and drug trafficking on a national scale.
According to Complex, he is slated to be released on January 27, 2026.
What we know about Big Meech's kids
Demetrius Flenory's only known son is Demetrius Flenory Jr or Lil Meech. Born on April 22, 2000, in Miami, Florida, the 24-year-old rapper was largely raised by his mother, Tuko reported, given that his father was incarcerated at the time.
Also an actor, he released his debut song, Bad Habits, back in 2019. It featured a short recorded conversation with his father in prison. Apart from 50 Cent's series BMF, Lil Meech also had a stint on HBO's popular show Euphoria, starring Zendaya, and bagged the role of Syl in Taurus (2022).
According to the outlet, Meech also has a daughter, Manessa Mia Hussey, who largely remains out of the public eye. Only in 2019 did it come out that she existed, when her grandmother, Big Meech's mother, posted her image on Instagram to wish her a happy birthday.
Per the post, she was born on July 2, but the exact year remains unclear. It is unknown if the drug lord has other kids, as information about the same remains scarce.
Big Meech got his GED in prison, attorney Brittany K. Barnett reveals
Big Meech was indicted in 2005, and by 2008 he was convicted and sentenced to 30 years behind bars. However, in 2024, a judge reduced his sentence by about three years after his lawyer, Brittany K. Barnett, pushed for it, Vibe reported.
Barnett asserted that his client has mended his ways and wishes to assimilate into society again.
The attorney also pointed out that he was an exemplary inmate who even got his GED, excelled in his classes, and steered clear of trouble. In speaking with TMZ, Barnett revealed that she is "overjoyed" seeing Big Meech let go after serving 20 years in prison, noting that he can now start afresh.
Meech founded the BMF in 1985 alongside his brother, Terry Lee. It started as a creative agency and Hip-Hop label but soon turned into a money laundering scheme. According to Vibe, the company peddled cocaine across the nation, garnering about $270 million in profits.
Their antics were thwarted in 2005 when the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents got involved. At the time, over 100 co-conspirators were cuffed. By 2007, the brothers pleaded guilty, Newsweek reported, to operating a criminal establishment "involving the large-scale distribution of cocaine."
According to Vibe, when Meech's sentence was cut down by 32 months, Lil Meech, aka Flenory Jr., took to his Instagram to celebrate the news, confirming that he was excited that his father would be coming home early.
