Rosie O’Donnell’s daughter, Chelsea, filed a petition in Wisconsin to change her last name to her biological mother’s maiden name, Neuens, as reported by the Daily Mail. This decision follows her multiple arrests and subsequent exclusion from the talk show host’s $80 million estate.
Chelsea is one of Rosie O’Donnell’s five adopted children. The 27-year-old was born to Deanna Micoley (née Neuens) in 1997, who gave her up for adoption as an infant. Chelsea, who has had a strained relationship with her estranged mother, moved back in with her biological mom in 2015, as first reported by TMZ.
The outlet cited its sources to claim that Rosie O’Donnell opposed her adopted daughter's move. The comedian and talk show host later released a statement:
“Chelsea made a decision when she turned 18 that she wanted to go to her birth mother. This was her choice.”
Two years later, Chelsea commented on her relationship with Rosie O’Donnell during an interview with Inside Edition:
“Growing up, I never really got along with her, and then once she kicked me out, I was just kind of done… I miss the rest of my family a lot but I think there is some much-needed space between me and Rosie. It's been nice having that.”
Rosie O’Donnell and Chelsea, a mother of four herself, tried to mend their relationship in later years but eventually got estranged. Recently, the 27-year-old was cut out from her mother’s will before she moved to Ireland.

A few days before leaving her adopted child out of her will, the former The View host dedicated a poem to her, which she shared via her Substack page. Rosie addressed her estranged daughter in “my child Chelsea,” and wrote,
“she wants her privacy / i am her mom / the story is out there / people judge and ask / why didn't u try more ... / u should have done something else ... / I would never have ... / if she were mine …”
Rosie addresses herself as one of Chelsea’s three mothers, along with Deanna Micoley and Kelli Carpenter. The comedian reflected upon “every adoption story” being “complicated,” with nuance and subtext.
She added:
“her story is her own to tell / and now - almost 28 years old / she wants a private life / she deserves one too”
Chelsea first requested a change in her last name in January before petitioning in April. Rosie O’Donnell addressed the same, as she wrote:
“she wishes to change her last name / to her birth moms maiden name / doesn't make sense to me / I am not her / its not about me / i am here for her - / she's not here for me / a wise woman once said”
After dedicating a poem to her estranged daughter, Rosie removed her from her will. According to Daily Mail, Rosie O’Donnell made up her mind only a few days before she relocated to Ireland. The outlet also cited a source to report that the decision didn’t impact Chelsea. The insider said:
“Chelsea really didn't care that Rosie wrote her out. I mean who wouldn't want to have access to millions? But for Chelsea, it is not about the money, it's about feeling wanted and loved. And that's something she feels she has never really had from Rosie."
According to Us Weekly, a hearing about changing Chelsea’s last name to her mother’s maiden name is scheduled for May.
Before filing a petition recently, the 27-year-old was sentenced to six years of probation by a Wisconsin court in March. According to People, Chelsea had pleaded guilty to three felony counts in February for “resisting or obstructing an officer, felony bail jumping, and possession of methamphetamine.”
