The renowned British international human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney, along with several other UK-based big-shot lawyers, have been warned and alerted about receiving sanctions from the American president, Donald Trump. The sanction could affect UK lawyers like Amal Clooney from entering or staying in the United States.

Amal Clooney, who is originally from Lebanon, was born in Beirut in 1978 to Baria and Ramzi Alamuddin. Amal, along with her family, emigrated to the UK, escaping the Lebanese Civil War. The 47-year-old Amal, who has worked on many high-profile cases and represented prominent personalities like the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, and former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed, was raised in Buckinghamshire before she went for her higher education at Oxford and New York University.

Amal is officially allowed to practice law not only in England and Wales but also in the United States, as she was admitted to the New York bar in 2002. Now, returning to the topic of Amal Clooney getting banned from the US, well, nothing of that sort has been confirmed yet.

However, according to reports by the Financial Times, the United Kingdom Foreign Office has warned many senior, distinguished barristers regarding Trump's sanctions, which came as a result of the legal advice the UK lawyers have provided to the ICC (International Criminal Court) in a war crimes case against Benjamin Netanyahu, the PM of Israel, and Yoav Gallant, the former Israeli Defense Minister.

"The United States will impose tangible and significant consequences on those responsible for the ICC’s transgressions, some of which may include the blocking of property and assets, as well as the suspension of entry into the United States of ICC officials, employees, and agents, as well as their immediate family members, as their entry into our Nation would be detrimental to the interests of the United States," the order said.

British lawyer and prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, was the first person who faced American sanctions for providing legal advice in the above-mentioned war crimes case against the Israeli PM and former Israeli Defense Minister. Executive Order 14203 (Imposing Sanctions on the ICC) was issued by President Trump in February 2025, which named Karim Khan in its annex.

Amal Clooney, who holds British citizenship and is the wife of prominent actor and director George Clooney (63), might be stopped from entering the United States if President Trump issues more sanctions against British lawyers. Amal, despite being a British citizen, also owns property in America, which she shares with her husband, George.

People Magazine, for further information on possible sanctions, tried to get in touch with the representatives of Amal Clooney and her legal chambers and also the United Kingdom Foreign Office. However, there has been no response so far from Amal's side as well as from the UK Foreign Office.
