Shakira’s acceptance speech at the 2025 Grammy Awards has sparked diverse reactions on social media as fans and critics commented on her speech mentioning "immigrant brothers and sisters".

The Colombian-born singer, who won Best Latin Pop Album for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, used her moment to dedicate her award to immigrant communities in the United States.

While speaking at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the singer voiced support for immigrants, saying:

"I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country. You are loved. You are worth it, and I will always fight with you."

She also paid tribute to women who work hard to support their families, dubbing them “the true she-wolves.” The singer also credited her two kids, Milan and Sasha, for always standing by her side. Her heartfelt words touched many, but they also sparked a debate online.

The speech gained praise from many fans, who commended Shakira for using her platform to speak out on immigrant rights. One X user wrote:

"Neither her or her hips lie"
"Such a powerful message. Truly inspiring." remarked another.
"That's the spirit, Shakira! Your message is a reminder that our diversity makes us stronger, not weaker" commented an internet user.
"Shakira’s words hit hard! She’s not just an artist, but a powerful voice for immigrants everywhere!" wrote one fan.

Despite the positive reactions, her speech also faced some criticism from online users. Some social media users accused the singer of politicizing the Grammy stage and also disagreed with her political stance.

"Just take the award don't speech" remarked a X user.
"And there it is. The propaganda couldn’t hide for too long" said another.
"Once again showing celebrities have the lowest IQ here on planet earth." said an internet user.

More about Shakira’s performance at the Grammys

At the 2025 Grammys, Shakira returned to the stage and performed after 18 years. Coming off her win for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, which brought her a fourth career Grammy award, the Colombian superstar performed her 1998 hit Ojos Así and the viral Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.

Her Grammy for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran was her third win in the Best Latin Pop Album category, following wins for MTV Unplugged (2001) and El Dorado (2018).

Grammy wrote in an article that the album, which she moulded through her own experience after a breakup, has come to be an anthem of sorts for finding strength in transformation. Shakira has solidified her status as a worldwide icon, boasting record streams and chart-topping singles such as TQG with Karol G.

She also won the Latin Grammy for Best Latin Electronic Music Performance and released her hit song Soltera last year. The singer is also gearing up for a world tour, this year.
