Inheritance helmer Neil Burger and lead star Phoebe Dynevor explain why the movie was filmed using an iPhone: Reports

The upcoming American espionage film Inheritance is proving that new and advanced tech isn't really necessary to make a movie. Sometimes, all it takes is just an iPhone to get things done. The crew traveled to different parts of the world and all they needed for the equipment was a pocket.

Neil Burger, who is directing the film, and the lead actress Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Maya in the film, sat down with The Direct, who then picked their brains on filming the movie. Other than Phoebe, it stars Rhys Ifans, Ciara Baxendale, Kersti Bryan, and more in the film.

There was no disruption while filming Inheritance

Neil Burger wanted the filming process to be as smooth as it could be, especially avoiding the vast attention of the public, which is normal when they see bid cameras and crews swirling around to get a shot. He told The Direct that:

"Well, the whole idea for me was to shoot it—I wanted to see the world as it was. And often, when you go in with a film crew, you disrupt the world, and the world ends up looking at you. I wanted to be looking at the world. And I wanted to have our characters in a situation where they were really moving through the world."

When the conversation was taken to the Inheritance actress, she explained she was never bored, unlike the films that needed a lot of preparation. She said:

"Because a lot of acting on films is just waiting around, really. And there was none of that on this. It was so go, go, go."

The film is slated to be released on January 24, 2025, but fans can see the trailer, which sort of appears like they are watching a TV show. Burger told in another interview with IndieWire, that it was a challenge shooting from an iPhone, which he wanted.

It tells the story of Maya, a girl who finds out that his father is a spy, which leads to more complications in her life as she now has to go around the world and unintentionally becomes a part of a conspiracy.

Burger also explained that COVID-19 played an important role in developing the film as it developed his desire to see what has changed following the pandemic. He came up with a story, and then they traveled to New York City, Delhi, Seoul, and Cairo for the film, resulting in Inheritance.
