"In his Sunday best..." - Internet in spilts as Adam Sandler attends Oscars in a hoodie; crashes Conan O'Brien's monologue

Popular actor Adam Sandler of Punch Drunk Love fame crashed the 97th Academy Awards night in a bright aquamarine hoodie. In a comic interlude to host Conan O’Brien’s opening monologue of the 2025 Oscars, O’Brien pointed to Sandler while checking if everyone was “properly dressed” for the event. Shocked at Sandler’s appearance, O’Brien yelled at him for being so casually dressed for the night. Initially nonchalant, Sandler yelled back at O’Brien for bringing everyone’s attention to his attire. Sandler said,

“Nobody even thought about what I was wearing to you brought it up!”

In what was surely a pre-planned comedy sketch, O’Brien defined exactly why Sandler’s choice of outfit was so misplaced. He said,

“You’re dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m., Adam.”

In characteristic Sandler style, the comedian known for his roles in Big Daddy and Just Go With It turned to the rest of the audience from his seat and explained why exactly he liked his outfit. Shouting amid bouts of laughter from the audience, he said

"You know what Conan, I like the way I look you know, ’cause I'm a good person. I don't care about what I wear or what I don't wear. Did my snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt offend you so much that you had to mock me in front of my peers?”

As O’Brien started to apologize, Sandler got up and pretended to storm off. As the audience collectively cried out, asking Sandler to stay, he told them he had to leave because of O’Brien but told the viewers where he could be found. Sandler said,

“You are all welcome to join me for a game of five on five basketball at Veteran Park tonight. Midnight tip-off. The guy from Nosferatu, where is he...he is on my team.”

Proceeding to hug and kiss Best Actor nominee Timothée Chalamet on the forehead, Sandler comically yelled out the actor’s last name before storming off.

Fans had hilarious reactions to Conan O’Brien and Adam Sandler’s pretend conflict at the Oscars. Just like the banter lit up the Dolby Theatre audience, who couldn’t help but laugh and applaud, fans on X also could not stop appreciating Sandler.

Another fan appreciated Sandler pranking O’Brien and the rest of the Oscars audience, writing,

Sandler has been jokingly exaggerating Chalamet’s last name since the Golden Globes 2025 when host Nikki Glasser pointed out that ‘Chalamet’ sounds like something Adam Sandler would say. True to expectations, Sandler contorted his face and yelled out ‘CHALAMET!’ as the camera pointed to him.

Sandler, a cast member of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, might soon be seen in Happy Gilmore 2, a sequel to his 1996 hit.
