During an April 10 episode of The Breakfast Club, Ja Rule, while promoting his rye Whiskey Company, Amber & Opal, talked about his mentor, late Irv Gotti.
Gotti passed away on February 5, 2025, at 54, after suffering a minor stroke in early 2024. When he asked how he feels about Gotti's nemesis 50 cent mocking the late rapper, Ja Rule said,
"When I see the things that he does, he did the Irv thing 'smoking on Irv', I'm like...Nobody likes all this goofy s**t. I was hot. I was ready to go nuclear and sh**."
He then added,
"I don't want to start trouble or make trouble with people. But if we got to get into it, oh, I'll f**king end it."
On February 6, a day after Gotti's death, 50 Cent posted an image of him seated in front of a hookah and a tomb reading R.I.P. The rapper could be seen exhaling smoke in the image, with the caption reading,
"I'm smoking on dat Gotti pack, nah God bless him (dove bird emoji) LOL."
It wasn't the first time Cent had slammed Gotti, while the latter was suffering a stroke, Cent in an Instagram post on February 4, a day before his death, posted a screenshot which headlined Gotti's recent stroke and wrote, "Damn I wanted him to see my new shows yo!"
The two have been beefing for over two decades after Rule was robbed by one of 50 Cent's associates in Southside Jamaica, Queens in 1999.
What did Ja Rule say at Irv Gotti's funeral?
Ja Rule eulogized his mentor Irv Gotti at his funeral in February, saying,
"I just wanna say, Irv, I love you. Everyone in this room loves you. You touched everybody in your own way. I know everybody has their moments of that with him. So, we are all here in celebration of your life. Because it will live on forever. I love you, my brother. See you when I get there."
Elsewhere in the interview, Rule also mentioned that Gotti's death was unexpected since he felt that he was "getting better."
"Something happened, I think he had like a mini-stroke, and went back to see the doctor. And then it just kind of, his health just started kind of deteriorating from there. And it just kind of happened fast, and I'm like 'God damn.'
The rapper said that Gotti's death helped "put things in perspective," including life, health, and money.
