On October 24, 2024 rapper Lil Durk was arrested in Broward County as he was charged with alleged murder-for-hire and was reportedly being held in the Broward County jail without bond. As per reports, he is awaiting transfer to the US Marshals.
The incident followed the arrest of five individuals in Chicago on murder-for-hire charges, allegedly connected to the murder of Georgia rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin Saviay’a Robinson.
The indictment filed in the US District Court in Los Angeles stated that all five men Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston were associated with Lil Durk's Only The Family (OTF) collective.
The prosecution alleged that flights and rental cars for these individuals were purchased using a credit card linked to the label. Additionally, prosecutors claimed that an unidentified OTF member offered "lucrative music opportunities" to anyone willing to kill Quando Rondo.
Soon after Lil Durk’s arrest, an X post on October 25, 2024, by an account ‘4PF_Rami_’ went viral in which the user seemingly threatened America with a gun photo. The user mentioned,
“I hear my buddy Lil Durk was put into handcuffs by none other than your people. But you see America you failed to realize 1 thing. I won’t stop at nothing till I get back. I will not rest till I get him back."
The post continued:
"I will not eat till I get him back. America I am not asking you to release him. I am no fool. I know how this works. But I also have my own way of doing things. America be warned. I am coming.”
Police alleged that Quando Rondo’s cousin’s murder was revenge for Lil Durk’s mentee King Von’s death
Quando Rondo and his team were in Los Angeles on August 19, 2022, when their vehicle was shot at while at a gas station in the Beverly Grove neighborhood. Although Quando Rondo was unharmed, his cousin was struck during the incident and later died from his injuries.
Authorities suspected that the shooting was an act of retaliation for the death of King Von, who was shot and killed by one of Quando Rondo's associates following a confrontation outside an Atlanta lounge in November 2020.
The charges for the five arrested individuals encompass conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, executing a murder-for-hire that resulted in death, and the use of a machine gun in a violent crime leading to death. The most severe charge could carry the death penalty upon conviction.
King Von, whose real name was Dayvon Bennett, was associated with the hip-hop collective and was a friend and frequent collaborator of Lil Durk, notable for the song Crazy Story. Durk also appeared on Bennett's debut studio album, Welcome to O'Block.
Lil Durk’s OTF was established over ten years ago during the rise of Chicago’s drill rap scene on the international stage. Federal prosecutors assert that the group primarily focused on producing and selling hip-hop music from Chicago artists.
