Lizzo sat down for an interview with host Keke Palmer on Baby, This Is Keke Palmer on Thursday, December 19, and the Good as Hell songstress reflected on the sexual harassment and assault lawsuits she has been dealing with.
Back in August 2023, dancers Arianna Davis, Noelle Rodriguez, and Crystal Williams filed a lawsuit against the singer, accusing her of a hostile work environment, as well as s*xual and racial harassment. A month later, the singer's former stylist, Asha Daniels, also filed a lawsuit in the same vein.
During the latest podcast episode, Lizzo told Keke Palmer that she was caught off guard by the lawsuit before rubbishing all of them. However, an unamused internet has since dissed the singer, noting that she should stop denying her wrongdoings and instead apologize to the alleged victims. Here's what one user stated:
"I want to believe her completely, but I think she did some unkind things to other people. Fame got to her…. She’s not some innocent person that was caught off guard."
Even more weighed in:
"So you don’t feel sorry about what you did? Just because you thought they’d never say anything," one user spewed.
"Maybe she shouldn't try to play the victim here and just apologise," another suggested.
'“I didn’t feel bad about what I did. I was hurt because my victims actually spoke up about what I was putting them thru",' another mimicked, sarcastically.
"Acknowledge it, apologize directly, and outline your adjustments moving forward," yet another advised.
But the comments didn't end there, as users claimed the singer was simply gaslighting her audience into taking her side:
"I listened to this whole interview and the way she talked about it was kinda insincere. Those dancers felt a certain way and the work environment must not of been good if they felt this way," someone pointed out.
"Can’t even take accountability for her actions lol," another spewed.
'“Mass betrayal”? By the individual people you “betrayed”? Start with saying sorry,' yet another echoed.
"Never doubted Lizzo. Those girls couldn’t cut it, so they brought a petty grievance lawsuit against her," someone defended the singer.
While the public was overwhelmingly against the singer, a handful online did jump to her defense, noting that the dancers were likely lying.
Lizzo calls out those who unfollowed her amid allegations of s*xual harassment and bullying, claims they weren't real fans if they did
During her latest sit-down with Keke Palmer, the former asked the latter what it was like to lose 150,000 followers in a day, to which she said:
"I was like, Oh, wow. This is the part of fame that you unknowingly sign up for. Lizzo continued, "People now will just believe anything bad about you because there's something about being a famous person that it's almost like people wanna believe that you're a bad person, and they can't believe that you're actually boring and chill and nice."
However, she called out those who unfollowed her, asserting "If you unfollowed me that quickly, were you even a fan?" As for why she was doing the interview, she vowed that it wasn't "for the 150,000 people who unfollowed me."
"I'm doing this interview for my fans who care about me, who've stood beside me, and, the people that I've been wanting to speak to for so long," she said.
Speaking directly about the dancers and staff who filed the case against her, she said:
"These were people that — I liked them and appreciated them as dancers, respected them as dancers. So I was like, what? But then I heard all the other things like sexual harassment, and I was like, they’re trying well, I don’t know what they’re trying to do, but these are the types of things that the media can turn into something that it’s not.”
As reported by The Grio, the lawsuit accuses Lizzo of forcing the dancers to engage in inappropriate behavior at a nightclub in Amsterdam, as well as treating her colored dancers differently than her non-black dancers. Allegedly, she also body-shamed them. As for Daniels' lawsuit, she claims that Lizzo would bully and harass them periodically.
