Aimee Lou Wood has responded to Saturday Night Live’s apology. The comedy sketch show’s apology comes in the wake of Wood calling the NBC show out for distastefully making fun of her teeth on the sketch, ‘The White LOTUS,’ during the show’s April 12 episode.
Wood took to her Instagram to share that she had received an apology on behalf of Saturday Night Live. Though she did not reveal the exact content of the private apology she received on behalf of the show, Wood did share her reaction to it. She said,
“I’ve had apologies from SNL…Last thing I’ll say on the matter. I am not thin skinned. I actually love being taken the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth not bad teeth. I don’t mind caricature - I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”
What is important to note here is the fact that Aimee Lou Wood was reaffirming her initial comments on her portrayal by the cast of Saturday Night Live. Ever since Wood wrote about her views on how she was portrayed on the sketch comedy show, her comments gained immense traction on the internet, opening up a debate around the nature of jokes that make fun of physical differences.

Aimee Lou Wood’s comments on her portrayal on Saturday Night Live
The comedy sketch that aired during the April 12 episode of Saturday Night Live made reference to Aimee Lou Wood’s physical appearance. Wood has prominent gap teeth, a feature that she has been quite candid about.
Although most of the actors in the sketch portrayed members of the Trump family or government officials, cast member Sarah Sherman took on the role of Chelsea, a fan-favorite character from The White Lotus originally played by Wood.
The sketch involves Jon Hamm enacting a caricature of Robert F. Kennedy, speaking about taking all the fluoride out of the water and wondering what would happen to people’s teeth if he did that. The joke was targeted at Sherman, who was parodying Wood’s character, Chelsea, and had noticeable fake teeth. Soon, Sherman gets distracted by a monkey but, unable to pronounce the word correctly because of the teeth, says, “mun-keyy.”
Wood responded to the portrayal in her Instagram stories. She wrote,
“Whilst in honest mode, I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny xo…(Felt righteous might delete laterx)”
Wood later added,
“Yes take the pi** for sure - that’s what the show is about but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”

Following her story, Wood reiterated her displeasure by sharing responses from fans that she received on her Instagram stories. She wrote,
“Omg I've got THOUSANDS of messages in agreement with me since posting that. Thanks guys Glad i said something..."
