While speaking to Entertainment Weekly in an article published on April, 6, Drew Barrymore looked back on suffering a back injury on the sets of Fever Pitch. The film, which was released in 2005, is based on Nick Hornby's 1995 novel and features Drew alongside Jimmy Fallon and tells a story of a relationship between her and her Red Sox obsessed boyfriend, Ben.

Looking back at one of the scenes, Drew mentions,

"There's a scene where I go on the Green Monster, the wall, and I fall on my back. And so you'll see me fall and I start wincing and screaming - that was all real. And then I had to keep running away, and I still have a bad back. I'm like, 'Did it happen on Fever Pitch?"

Drew then went on to talk about the film's plot and noted that she believes that the two characters hypothetically are still together, despite their varied interests,

"I think so, absolutely. And going to the games and living their life. Hopefully, the film is a metaphor for couples who have to accept those things that both of them have when they enter the relationship, and how they figure it out together. You know, no one's coming in with no baggage!"

More about Drew Barrymore's on-set injuries

Fever Pitch isn't the only film where Drew Barrymore got injured. During a September 11, 2024, episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress welcomed Justin Theroux, and the two recalled getting injured on the sets of 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Literally.

Barrymore played the role of Dylan Sanders, one of the three angels, and Justin played the role of her ex-boyfriend. Justin, while recalling the incident, noted,

"We had this large fight sequence (where Drew) was wearing these...heeel boots. Then (she was) supposed to just kick me into some barrels, so Drew just hauls back and kicks me as hard as she can and goes right into my chest plate and breaks it."

The actress then went on to note, that her "tailbone cracked into the chair and broke" after Theroux kicked her into the chair and she forgot to put her tailbone pad in.

Despite being a child actor, and fronting multiple films, Drew has since pursued a career outside of acting. Drew Barrymore has hosted her own daytime talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, since 2020 and also produced CBS' revival of the classic quiz show Hollywood Squares.
