Which of Colin Jost's jokes made Michael Che "pretty furious"
During a recent interview on the Fly on the Wall podcast, Michael Che revealed that Colin Jost's "Jalapeno business" joke made him "pretty furious." Jost made the joke while reading a news segment in the season 40 finale in May 2015.
The segment read:
"Ohio police arrested a woman who allegedly stabbed her boyfriend for eating all of their salsa. Though you'd be angry too if your boyfriend was jalapeno business."
The joke received substantial laughter from the audience. Che responded on air saying "I hate you for laughing at that", and proceeded to begin a news joke about a Malaysia Airlines flight but was interrupted by Bobby Moynihan's Riblet.
While recalling the joke, Michael Che said that he never heard it before but remembered the punchline and warned Jost that if he went ahead with it he'd quit the show. Che also added, "And I was so frustrated."
Colin Jost argued that he wasn't too excited about the joke, but since Che was so against it, he felt compelled to carry it out. Jost added that he would have cut the part if Che wasn't so against it. While addressing Che, Jost said:
I would have honestly cut it if it wasn't so upsetting to you. And then I was like, 'I'm definitely, definitely doing this.'"
Michael Che and Colin Jost have been appearing as longest-ever hosts of the Weekend Update segment and are all set to return for SNL's milestone 50th season which is scheduled to premiere on September, 28 on NBC and Peacock.
