While speaking to People Magazine in an article published on April 23 for this week's cover story, Demi Moore opened up about her extreme fitness habits when she was younger.

The 62-year-old actress revealed,

"I mean, crazy things (with) diet and exercise, biking from Malibu and going all the way to Paramount about 26 miles. All because I had placed so much value on what my outsides looked like."

Moore mentioned that she has now shifted her belief from trying to achieve a certain stereotype to prioritizing overall health and well-being.

The actress revealed that earlier she was "just punishing" herself,

"And straight up, I was really just punishing myself. And in this desire to dominate it versus now, I have a much more kind of intuitive, relaxed, trusting relationship with my body."

The actress had to bulk up to portray Lieutenant Jordan O'Neill in G.I. Jane (1997), and said that her newfound perspective on her body came after working on the film.

"I had transformed my body multiple times, and obviously it was a much bigger, muscular body. And I'd had this incredible experience on this film, and I had experienced this sense of strength. But I realized, I didn't want to wear that. I wanted to just have that within me. And I think I was exhausted from putting it through so much over such a long period of time."

"I put so much pressure on myself," says Demi Moore

Her recent interview with People Magazine isn't the first time Demi Moore has reflected on her relationship with her body and fitness. In September 2024, while speaking to CBS Sunday, Demi revealed that she put a lot of pressure on herself during the 1990s, after giving birth to her daughter, Scout Willis.

"I put so much pressure on myself. I was feeding (Scout) through the night, getting up in the dark with a trainer, with headlamp, biking all the way to Paramount then shooting a full day, which is usually a 12 hour day and then starting all over again."

In her 2019 memoir, Inside Out, Moore revealed that she gave up working out in the gym after filming G.I. Jane, after finding out that she weighed more than usual. However, instead of freaking out about the gained weight, in what would have been her "usual reaction", Demi Moore felt "worn down" and "finally surendered."

The actress was most recently seen in the 2024 movie, The Substance.
