During an April 22 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, Ben Affleck reacted to a viral video where he refused to pay when his son, Samuel, 13, asked for $6,000 Dior Air Force 1s.

In the video, the actor and his kids can be seen attending the Got Sole sneaker convention in March, 2025. When his son Samuel is seen admiring a pair of Dior Air Jordan 1 Shoes, Affleck says, "You like those because they're expensive", when Samuel protests saying that he had always liked how they look, Affleck insinuated that he won't be paying for the sneakers,

"That's a lot of lawns you gotta mow there."

Affleck while defending his parenting skills reflected on the situation saying,

"He wanted these sneakers, and I was like, 'These sneakers are about $6,000, what are you talking about? What are you gonna do, mow lawns? You got $6,000? He was like, 'We have the money.' I was like, 'I have the money! You're broke."

"Yeah, my oldest two kids have jobs" - says Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck while talking about his parenting tactics with co-host Andy Cohen said that he loves his kids but he doesn't want to do them a "disservice" by doing everything for them. Affleck teaches his kids that if they want something, they have to work for it.

When Cohen questioned if his children have jobs, Affleck responded,

"Yeah, my oldest two have jobs. In fact, one just got a job, the kind of classic teenager working a shop job - I won't say what it is. My older one in college is working and trying to get an internship for the summer."

Ben Affleck has three kids, Violet Anne, 19, Seraphine Rose, 16, and Samuel, 13. Affleck mentioned that his youngest, Samuel is now coming to terms with what it means to work for something,

"And yeah, my son, who's 13, he's reckoning with that reality right now. He's looking at no shoes in his closet. Well, he's got shoes, just no crazy expensive fancy shoes. And I'm like, 'Well, if you want that, you can work 1,000 hours.' You know what I mean? Minimum wage."

Ben Affleck and Garner had been married for almost 10 years, before announcing their separation in June 2015. The two claim to have a good "co-parenting" relationship.
