Rapper and singer Megan Thee Stallion and her producer LilJuMadeDaBeat aka Julian Martrel Mason appeared distressed over Spotify. The music streaming app listed the singer as the most streamed female wrapper for 2024. However, her producer was not quite happy about it as he took to X on December 5, 2024, writing,

“I hate that yall actually use Spotify instead of literally ANY other streaming service. They pay us the least.”

As understood from his statement, Megan Thee Stallion’s producer urged listeners to use other music streaming platforms to listen to songs instead of Spotify. His statement has drawn reactions from social media users. One Instagram user wrote,

“I'm not gonna lie, I'm not worried about paying celebs when I'm listening to music? Lol.”

Social media users advocated for Spotify by sharing their experiences and conveniences with the app.

“I actually get to save my songs unlike Apple Music it’s a whole expedition and practically impossible trying to find the songs I hearted.”
“I’ve had Spotify since 2013…I don’t have time to recreate all my playlists on another streaming service. Sorry”
“Spotify for the win. They have the best podcast set up also.”

A person commented on Mason’s X post asking for recommendations for three apps that paid well to the artists. LilJuMadeDaBeat replied that he was unsure about three apps but mentioned Tidal paid the most. Social media users highlighted this particular comment in their reactions.

“He followed it up by saying Tidal pays the MOST for those who really wanna support folks!”
“I only use Tidal. Since 2016. Tidal’s just better for making playlists, finding music easy, and keeping it all customized to what you actually like.”
“Tidal got better mixes.”

Megan Thee Stallion was previously accused of buying 30 million streams

Megan Thee Stallion came under fire after she was accused of purchasing 30 million streams to influence the number of her much-awaited album Megan.

However, the same numbers were removed during the count of first-week sales on Spotify. This eventually changed her album’s position in the charts and placed it on the 30th.

Her fans supported saying that the additional streams were due to bots that were beyond the singer’s control. Megan Thee Stallion and LilJuMadeDaBeat faced a lawsuit from rapper Plies, alleging they sampled his song Me & My Goons without proper credit.

LilJu addressed the claim on social media, clarifying that Wanna Be sampled a different track, My Dougie, which was appropriately credited. He also noted that the original sample predates Plies' song by two years.

Regardless, it must be noted that Spotify pays artists an average of $0.003–$0.005 per stream, splitting revenue 70/30 between rights holders and the platform.

In 2024, Spotify introduced changes requiring tracks to reach at least 1,000 streams within 12 months and a minimum number of unique listeners to qualify for royalties. These updates aim to curb bot-driven and artificial streaming practices.
