Fans are dubious of boxing champion Gervonta Davis' latest assertion that his influence was crucial in making Chrome Hearts famous among rappers. He said:
"I'm still up on them.”
The announcement follows Davis' Instagram post in which he stated that it was "time for an agreement" because of his popularity and his want for a formal endorsement from the premium brand.
During an interview with Lil Yachty's A Safe Place Podcast, the rapper asked Gervonta Davis if his remarks had prompted any conversations with Chrome Hearts. In response, Davis said:
"A lot of people start wearing Chrome, bro. Stop it. Come on. Overly too. You know it."
Admitting that impact is rarely acknowledged. Yachty responded "okay okay" without expressing agreement or disagreement.
In response to Yachty's question about whether Davis was the first to wear Chrome Hearts, the boxer said:
"No"
but strongly implied that his prominence significantly increased sales for the company. Gervonta Davis explained that he was requesting a partnership to "make money" together. He acknowledged, though, that his first strategy could have been overly forceful.
During a match against Frank Martin, Gervonta Davis wore unique $100,000 Chrome Hearts shoes and shorts. He also has a viral Chrome Hearts bean bag chair, boxing gloves, and a punching bag.
Even though he loves the brand, there hasn't been any official cooperation yet.
Fan reactions to Gervonta Davis' comment
Many supporters quickly questioned Davis' assertion that he was confident in his impact. One user replied bluntly:
"Bold statement by Tank and I heavily disagree!"
while another dismissed it outright as:
"This so cap lmao"
Another argued that Davis' influence was greater in the boxing community than in hip-hop.
"He ain’t influence the rappers he influenced the boxers"
Another user brought up the fact that Chrome Hearts was well-known in rap culture before Davis' involvement.
"N***** was wearing chrome hearts in the hood before Tank"
While another claimed that the brand's presence had been established years prior by well-known artists.
"Cap uzi , Migos , ASAP rocky they been rocking chrome since 2018"
Davis wants Chrome Hearts deal, later calls them out
Gervonta Davis recently tagged Chrome Hearts on Instagram and demanded an official endorsement, saying,
"I think it’s time for us to come to an agreement… Becuz my influence is crazy rn fam.”
He has regularly shown off his passion for the company wearing personalized items both inside and outside of the ring.
Shortly after, though, Davis complained that the company wasn't treating him well, stating he was
"off that Chrome s***"
His remarks coincided with Offset's, who appeared to be slamming the brand's increasing popularity by posting on Instagram,
“Yal ngas burning Chrome out omg,”
