The Saturday Night Live alum Will Forte surely knows how to pull a prank. Having said that, the prank that he pulled when he was 14 turned out to be the worst and taught him a lesson that he never quite forgot. There are dangers to taking a joke too far, as things can take a different turn. That is what Forte learned after his "awful" prank on his parents went horribly wrong.

Will Forte was a guest on the recent episode of Sean Evans' chat show, Hot Ones. When Sean asked him to look back on the best prank he had ever pulled, Forte was reminded of one, but according to him, it was surely not the best one, as it went south. Initially, he hesitated to reveal the prank, but after a bit of convincing, he decided to share it.

Forte, while growing up in his teenage years, tried out his comedic sensibilities on his parents and learned that certain lines should never be crossed. The 54-year-old comedian-actor began reluctantly by saying:

"I have an awful one. Ugh. I’m not even going to tell it."

It took a little bit of encouragement from Sean for Will to reveal the prank that he pulled on his parents when he was 14. The McGruber actor continued:

"It’s awful. It’s horrible. You’ll see why. Please feel free to cut this out."

Forte explained in detail and said:

"I saw my mom driving in the neighborhood and I was like, 'Oh, this'll be funny.' I wrote on a piece of paper, I’m like, 'I'm so sorry, Mom.' And then left that at the front door and then laid down on her bathroom floor as if I was no longer alive."

As faking one's own death along with a suicide note and everything might sound like a convincing prank, well, in reality, it is nothing close to being funny. Forte recalled:

"Hearing her scream, it was the worst! It was the worst thing. And I immediately popped up — 'Mom I’m kidding!'"

Will Forte's "awful" prank on his parents taught him a lesson

After revealing the horrible prank he pulled on his mother, Will went ahead and talked about the valuable lesson he learned that day. The Bodkin actor revealed:

"It did teach me, like, 'Oh, not everything is funny. There are things that hurt people'. And, you know, I certainly look back at my own work and there are regrets I have, but I don’t love comedy that hurts people or makes fun of people."
