Cardi B and Elon Musk went head to head on X, when the latter accused the Grammy-winning artist of being a "puppet" for endorsing Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election.
On November 3, Elon Musk reposted a video of Cardi B on-stage at a Harris rally just two days prior, where she addressed the crowd and made clear her political inclinations. His caption read:
"Another puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words. The Kamala campaign has no authenticity or true empathy."
However, Cardi B retorted:
"I’m not a puppet Elon.. I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents that had to work their ass off to provide for me! I’m a product of welfare, I’m a product of section 8, I’m a product of poverty and I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you….But you don’t know nothing about that. You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle…. PS fix my algorithm."
Cardi B says she's "so proud" of herself for going up on stage and saying what she wanted to say
In the video, Cardi B can be seen faltering on stage when her teleprompter stops working. It took her a minute to find her words, and she beckoned for everyone to look kindly at her as she was feeling nervous. Someone eventually ran up to the stage and handed her a cell phone to read from.
During the rally on November 1, Cardi B revealed that she most related to Harris for being the target of sexism herself. She has been "underdog, underestimated and discredited."
She continued, asserting that "women have to work ten times harder to prove themselves, and still," they're questioned. Referring to Trump, Cardi made it clear that she could never "stand a bully, and like Kamala, [she'll] always stand up to one."
Cardi also took to Instagram to reflect on what it was like being on stage. She uploaded an image of herself, and the caption read:
"Last night was a moment I feel like I’ve been waiting for my whole life. If you know me you know I’m the biggest history nerd and I’ve been talking about politics on all my platforms for a long long time so this was a dream come true. I’m so glad that I got to meet and learn so much from VP Kamala Harris.. we have to make a change on Tuesday and I know she’s the one to take us there…
In speaking about the teleprompter mishap, here's what the WAP rapper had to say:
"AND YES!.. I wrote my speech down because I had to make sure I said everything I wanted to say honey!! I’m sooo proud of myself you don’t even know….and No I aint get payed a dollar ..I actually came out of pocket wit glam and travel."
Musk, on the other hand, was born in South Africa. His parents were well off, and his father reportedly owned stakes in a Zambian emerald mine.
The billionaire mogul has come under criticism time and again for his comments on socio-economic issues.
