Charli XCX’s recent collaboration with Variety has made us realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side. This involved a knowing-the-lyrics segment which tested the singer’s ability to recall the song from its lines.

After a few rounds, the singer was given a note card with lyrics from her 2018 song 1999 with Troye Sivan. She then talked about her Brat tour with Sivan saying it was an amazing experience. However, she mentioned that she found touring emotionally difficult, but with Troye Sivan, it became much easier for her. She said,

“I find the stage actually these days to be like a very angry place for me. I have done a lot of like physical damage to my body from performing and I am often in a lot of pain when I perform genuinely like physically, I have like nerve damage in my neck from things I have done on the stage.”

Charli XCX shared that delivering a performance she feels proud of requires intense physical effort, leaving her feeling emotionally drained. However, she noted that being on tour with Troye Sivan and others brought her comfort and made the experience feel much lighter.

The singer has been famed as Variety’s Hitmaker of the Year. The magazine described her as a highly innovative and influential figure in pop music for over a decade.

Known for blending melodic instincts with experimental production styles influenced by clubs and collaborators, she has become a key figure in the hyper-pop subgenre. Despite this acclaim, she constantly seeks new creative inspiration, driven by a restless desire for change.

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan first met at a house party

During a conversation in the Late Night with Seth Meyers show in August 2024, Troye Sivan said he first saw her at a festival in the UK before meeting the singer in person at her house party. While describing the house, Charli XCX said she didn’t stay there anymore as it was an old Tudor house that gave eerie vibes.

Sivan said he went to the house party with his boyfriend and met the singer in the kitchen. However, the singer said she was starstruck to see Troye Sivan at her house. She said she barely managed those parties and they ended up being messy and not-so-chic. Seth Meyers asked them about the raves they performed at in the past, regarding which Charli XCX said,

“I started playing at raves when I was younger. I had a MySpace and this guy on the internet, it sounds really shady but he would like hit me up and be like ‘Hey, do you want to come and play these raves?’ I was like 14 at the time.”

Charli XCX announced her Brat tour for 2025 which will commence on April 22, 2025, in Austin followed by shows in Minneapolis and Chicago. The tour will conclude with two shows on April 30 and May 1, 2025, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
