Christina Fulton says it's breaking her heart to take her estranged ex, Nicholas Cage, and their son, Weston, to court.
Speaking with TMZ reporters outside the courthouse on Monday, Christina Fulton alleged she has been abandoned by the LAPD to fight her legal woes alone. She claims that they left her to bleed on the ground when she was attacked last April. She also said that Cage has completely cut off contact with her.
“I’m here again as a mother,” she told TMZ. “I love my son. Tough love. We’re dealing with a mental health crisis epidemic. And I’m here again. So I want all those parents and mothers to know that I’m here. And I will be here for you all, and I will be here for my son.”
Christina Fulton's lawsuit against her husband and son explored:
Christina Fulton has sued the father-son duo after allegedly suffering physical assault at the hands of the latter. She is also accusing Cage of enabling the attack, though the two have categorically denied the claims, Us Weekly has reported.
Speaking with TMZ on March 3, she said:
“I wanna tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that I have been heartbroken as a mother for a very long time. I’ve done this alone. I’ve been left alone, if not blocked.”
She claimed that the Los Angeles Police Department “left me on the ground bleeding,” on the day of the alleged attack, before adding that she loves her son and wants to be there for him. She then blamed Cage for being “responsible” for their son’s behavior because “he’s his father.”
Christina Fulton filed her claims on February 20, claiming that 61-year-old Cage dismissed their son's mental health concerns, thereby enabling his allegedly troublesome behavior. She is now suing her son for assault and Cage for negligence.
BBC has reported that the lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages for the "catastrophic physical, emotional, and economic harm she has endured due to an unprovoked attack by their son, Weston."
Weston Cage was cuffed and charged with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon in June last year, though he pleaded not guilty to both. He was released on bond. At the time, Fulton had visible injuries on her person, which she claims to have sustained when she tried to intervene on her son's “mental health crisis.”
“Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery and harming numerous individuals,” her court filing reads, according to Us Weekly. “Nicolas has been aware of Weston’s history and nevertheless failed to take action to prevent Weston from committing acts of violence and harming others.”
She also claimed that in the past, Cage bailed Weston out of jail and paid for his Los Angeles condo's rent:
“Nicolas knew or should have known that Weston posed a serious and imminent danger to others, including Plaintiff, based on his documented history of violent assaults, substance abuse, and mental instability,” she added.
However, the actor's lawyers have rubbished the lawsuit as "frivolous."
“The allegations by Christina Fulton against Nicolas Cage are absurd and frivolous,” Cage said in a statement to Us. “Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man. Mr. Cage does not control Weston’s behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston’s alleged assault of his mother.”
In the past, Fulton took Cage to court over a financial dispute. At the time, she accused him of owing her $13 million, adding that he failed to purchase a home for her in Hancock Park. However, the 2009 case was settled in 2011, as reported by BBC.
