Rapper and YouTuber NLE Choppa, aka Bryson LaShun Potts, has opened up following the comments he received for the Playgirl magazine photoshoot. Netizens commented about the shoot saying Choppa was "gay-baiting." On January 27, 2025, responding to one such comment on X, the rapper wrote:
“Never been gay baiting. It’s me showing freedom. Anything now a days is called gay or it’s baiting. In reality I’m comfortable enough, and have the upmost confidence in how good God designed me head to toe. Call me what you want but a straight man comfortable in my skin, I AM.”
NLE Choppa also shared a five-minute video on X sharing his thoughts about the gay-baiting backlashes. Social media users also supported him as many appreciated the rapper. One Instagram user (@littladyd) wrote:
“I love his self-love. People are really uncomfortable with it. He do troll, though.”
Netizens defended him saying he must be left alone.
“Y’all can’t make me hate him,” a social media user (@ahtyjohnson) commented.
“He’s a very secure man. Yall need to leave him alone,” a person (@_fynechyna) defended him.
“Please leave him alone because I don’t want him to stop doing whatever he doing.. keep doing you..” another online user (@zellswag) mentioned.
As many social media users noted that NLE Choppa was a secure man, others encouraged him to continue with his work.
“KEEP GOING NLE, they ain’t signing the checks,” an internet user (@cookingwithshaa) pointed out.
“Yall stay in his business, but never talk about how he gives back, gardens, and all the knowledgeable info he gives….always negative,” a netizen (@therealogjujubae) noted.
“I really think he just obsessed with himself,” another online user (@teonabell) opined.
NLE Choppa said he loved gay people but would not engage in gay-baiting
In the five-minute video that he shared on X, NLE Choppa said he had nothing against gay people but would not do gay-baiting because that’s not what he wanted to do.
He clarified that he loved his body and it was his choice to pose however he wanted. While addressing the claims, he said posing for a selfie in the mirror showing off how beautiful he was did not make him a gay baiter.
The rapper mentioned that he only made the video to point out that he did not care about the narratives floating around regarding his photoshoot. Choppa said:
“Do not say that I am a gay baiter because I am comfortable enough to show off the perfection that God has orchestrated over my physical, my mental, my spiritual and even my emotions.”
NLE Choppa also mentioned that during the photoshoot for the magazine, the photographer asked if he could pull down his pants a bit, only if he were comfortable.
He reiterated that he loved himself, to the extent that he would walk out of the hotel without any clothes. NLE Choppa also addressed the critics urging them to not call him names as he felt he was doing something others couldn’t.
