Just a few more days and Captain America: Brave New World will finally see the new soldier picking up the shield. But before that, an interesting thing came to light that Anthony Mackie, who is playing the lead, shared recently during an interview. He didn't need comic books to prepare for the role.
Other than Anthony Mackie, the film will star Danny Ramirez, Giancarlo Esposito, Harrison Ford, and more. A couple of characters last seen in The Incredible Hulk, Betty Ross, and Samuel Sterns, will return in the upcoming movie.
As far as the plot is concerned, adamantium is likely to be the core of the film, as we saw a half-emerged Tiamut, a Celestial that Sersi turned into marble during the Emergence, in the trailer.
Captain America: Brave New World script was enough for Anthony Mackie
Mackie recently sat down with Collider to discuss the huge responsibility that'll come with the shield in Captain America: Brave New World. There he revealed why he didn't pick comics to prepare for the role, He said,
"No. I literally just focused on the script. I mean, these, these stories are so interesting because they don't do the comic books page by page by page. They use the comic books as a blueprint or outline. So you can have three or four different comic books in one movie. So I stayed away from the comic books and just utilized the script and the story and the background that we've created of Sam Wilson to develop him into the Captain America he is in the movie."
The upcoming Julius Onah film will be his first solo outing as the titular Captain America previously portrayed by Chris Evans in the MCU. Cap handed him the shield in Avengers: Endgame after he returned following his journey where he put the Infinity Stones back to where they belonged.
Although Captain America: Brave New World will officially see him embracing the shield, it wasn't easy for the character to come to terms with the idea that he is now the Captain America.
In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where he paired with Bucky Barnes, aka Winter Soldier, we saw John Walker (Wyatt Russell) being given the title of Captain America, which he portrays throughout the series. Until Valentine entered the game and gave him the moniker of U.S. Agent which we will see him playing in the Thunderbolts*.
Mackie will appear in the upcoming MCU projects, Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), and hopes to keep playing the role for quite some time after that.
The film is slated for release on February 14, 2025.
