Dave Coulier’s wife, Melissa Coulier, who in the past few months had been a constant companion alongside her husband as he went through cancer treatment, finally has a reason to celebrate. Coulier’s spouse of more than a decade, the Full House star Dave Coulier, is finally cancer-free.

Candace Cameron Bure, who co-starred with Dave Coulier in Full House, took to Instagram to share the news. Bure posted a picture of herself along with Coulier and his wife, all of whom seemed to be in a celebratory mood.

As Bure celebrated Dave Coulier’s triumph against his health struggles along with Melissa Coulier, Kelly Rizzo, Bob Saget’s widow, was elatedly joined in. Rizzo, an actress herself, was married to Saget, a comedian who co-starred with Coulier and Bure in Full House.

Rizzo, while referring to Bob Saget’s close friendship with Coulier, took to the comments section of Bure’s post celebrating Coulier’s cancer-free status, writing,

"We all love you so much, Dave! I know Bob is smiling down big”

Bob Saget played Danny Tanner on Full House, who was Dave Coulier’s character, Joey Gladstone’s best friend. Both characters help raise DJ Tanner, Danny Tanner’s daughter, who was played by Candace Cameron Bure.

Saget died unexpectedly in his hotel room in Florida earlier this year in January. According to People Magazine, the comedian reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during an unwitnessed fall.

Dave Coulier’s cancer diagnosis

In November 2024, Coulier had revealed exclusively to People Magazine that he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma after an infection in his upper respiratory system had caused a swelling in his lymph nodes.

According to Mayo Clinic, non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Lymph nodes are a part of the lymphatic system, which, according to Mayo Clinic, play an important part in the body’s immune system. However, when the germ-fighting cells grow out of control, it can lead to a case of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Dave Coulier’s cancer treatment

Dave Coulier began his chemotherapy right after his diagnosis. The process, which included six rounds of chemotherapy sessions, ended in February, as per Parade. Speaking to the news outlet, Coulier revealed the emotional toll the treatment took on him. He said,

“They call it chemo brain, where you are a bit foggy - that started to increase. My days of being able to get up and walk around and be active started to decrease…Some days I did not want to do anything…There was so much cancer related fatigue that got progressively worse and worse and worse, and I thought ‘wow, that is how it is going to be’”

A report by People Magazine noted that some of Coulier’s family members had undergone cancer treatment as well. As per the report, Coulier had lost both his mother and sister to breast cancer, and his niece had also succumbed to cancer when she was just 29 years old.

Although Coulier drew inspiration from the women in his family, he could not help but think of death as the consequence of a serious illness such as cancer that fatigued both the body and the mind. In another report by People Magazine, his wife, Melissa, recalled a conversation the couple had after Coulier’s fifth chemo session. As per the report, Melissa recalled her husband’s words, saying,

“After [the fifth round of] chemo, he was like, ‘I don't know if I could do this again…He was like, ‘I’m prepared either way. If I die, I die. And if I can stay here, great. I want to.’”

Additionally, Melissa Coulier spoke about how the couple had to maintain resilience while Coulier went through the treatment. While speaking to WXYZ, she said,

“He has such a positive attitude, and you need that in order to really fight it. Every morning, if he's feeling up for it, we try to put on a song and do a little dance party with the dogs, because when you do feel good, you have to celebrate that too”
