Jane Fonda, during an appearance alongside her son, Troy O'Donovan Garity, on the February 28 episode of Netflix's podcast, Skip Intro, recalled the time she fought off a bear from her grandson's bedroom.
When host Krista Smith asked Troy to share something that people don't know about his mom, Troy mentioned,
"She pushed a bear out of her bedroom."
As the Monster in Law actor, nodded to agree, Troy emphasized,
"She was living in New Mexico, out in the wild...ish. And she was (taking) care, or looking after her grandson, who is in a crib in the bedroom. She heard something so she left the bedroom in the middle of the night to go see what the sound was. And when she came back in, the screen door was dismantled and there was a bear in the bedroom, sniffling over the crib."
Garity was referring to Malcolm Vadim, Fonda's daughter, Vanessa Vadim's 25-year-old son who was an infant then. When Smith then asked Fonda what she did next, Gariety urged his mom to continue the rest of the story. Fonda let out a giant roar and raised her arms to imitate her actions, and mentioned,
"I had just learned what to do if you're close to a bear. And what was it. And get very big; I opened my bathrobe.'
Fonda's actions scared the bear, which urinated on the rug, walked back to the door and sat, eventually leaving.
