Zach Dean wrote The Gorge as a spec script and it was added to the popular Blacklist of Hollywood which is a list of unproduced scripts. He recently gave an interview to Forbes, where he said that he wanted to revisit that world and hinted at a sequel. He said,

“I have ideas, particularly for a prequel. Original [ideas in Hollywood are] hard to get done, but if you can do it, there’s an audience for it. People want original stories. If I have my way, we’ll have original franchises. We’ll have more Tomorrow Wars and more Gorges. That's a dream come true, man."

As per The Direct, the film has surpassed Wolfs on Apple TV+ to become a large premiere on the platform. Towards the end of The Gorge, the two snipers manage to destroy the space. Both these characters leave both sides of the border. We might see the two reuniting for another mission in a different setting if a sequel is made.

We discover that the Dark Lake was developing super soldiers within the gorge, and Bartholomew may have been murdered. This suggests we might not see Sigourney Weaver in the sequel. In an interview with Screen Rant, Derrickson revealed that actual events influenced him to create the film. He mentioned that he experienced love in his life, which motivated him to craft a romantic storyline.

In an interview with Dread Central, the director spoke about the film's shooting.

“I knew I had a good size budget for the movie and I really wanted to focus the CGI work on set extensions and not virtual environments, the exception being the gorge itself. But even that was still physical photography.”
