Donald Trump openly critiqued Oprah, saying he "couldn't help but think this isn't the real Oprah" over her support for U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

In a social media post on September 21, Donald Trump said,

"A long time ago, Oprah Winfrey asked me to do her last Network Television Show. The final week of her show was a big deal, and it was my honor, with my family, to do it."

According to CNN, Trump's claim is false since Trump appeared on Oprah's show in February 2011, three months before the series finale in May 2011. He further criticized his opponent, Kamala Harris, and claimed that he had watched Oprah's event with her, saying,

"When I watched her interview yesterday with a woman who is destroying, through her complete and total incompetence, America, I couldn’t help but think this isn’t the real Oprah.”

Oprah Winfrey hosted a livestream virtual campaign rally with Harris on September 19 with other celebrity guests: Tracee Ellis Ross, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Chris Rock, and Ben Stiller.

Ahead of the livestream, Oprah said the event aimed to get voters excited to vote. After the event, she took to Facebook, saying she hoped viewers and participants were "left informed and inspired to do something."

Oprah's livestream comes weeks after she endorsed Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention in August 2024.

Donald Trump says Kamala Harris is not "mentally fit"

In his Truth Social post on September 22, Donald Trump went on to claim that his opponent, Kamala Harris, is "not mentally fit" to lead the country.

"Kamala looked really foolish, couldn't answer the simplest of questions on Inflation, the Cost of Goods, or our very porous and dangerous Border - No leader there, and Oprah just wanted to crawl under a table. Comrade Kamala Harris is mentally unfit to be President. She knows it, and so does everyone else!"

Several Trump supporters backed the former President by mocking Harris' lengthy responses to questions during the event, including Republican Senator Eric Schmitt, who called one of her answers a "word salad."

Trump's comments come after clips from the livestream where Oprah questioned Harris' possession of guns went viral.

While responding to Oprah, Kamala said that anyone breaking into our house would be "getting shot." However, she soon laughed it off, realizing the depth of her answer, and apologized, saying that she "probably shouldn't have said that" but that her "staff will deal with that later."
