Elton John has been recovering from a serious eye infection, which limited his vision in one eye. While speaking to Variety at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, Elton John revealed why he couldn't watch the screening of the new documentary Elton John: Never Too Laye. The documentary showcases the singer's life as one of the world's biggest rockstars and features his famous performances.

While speaking about his eye infection, he said,

"I couldn't really see it because of my eye, but I sensed it. I'd seen it before. I don't know. Seeing it with an audience is far more emotional than just sitting with a bunch of people. I got more out of it last night than I did when I saw it the first time, and it hit harder."

Elton posted an announcement on Instagram on September 4, 2024, notifying fans about his "limited vision in one eye" and adding that recovery is an "extremely slow process."

The singer mentioned that he had developed an eye infection over the summer and has been spending the summer "recuperating at home." He also added that he feels optimistic about his progress so far. However, he didn't mention the exact issue he was dealing with or its cause.

"It's been weeks since I've been able to see all of this," says Elton John about his vision

While discussing his eye infection with Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival, Elton John opened up about how his eye infection has impacted his daily routine,

"What's happened with my eye has been very...just, it's been very distressing because I'm used to getting out in the morning, looking at all the newspapers, looking at the charts, looking at everything, how the world is doing creatively, and I've lost that for the time being."

He added,

"It's been weeks since I've been able to see all of this, but the prospect is good. I had a hell of a time."

The legendary singer-songwriter has been battling health issues for the last few years. He was briefly hospitalized in August 2023 after falling from a French Villa where he spent the summer with his husband, David Furnish, and their children.

The British singer caused concern among fans in 2022 after photos of him in a wheelchair went viral. However, Elton John later clarified that he was using the wheelchair to rest his hip after a concert in Bern.
