Sports columnist and commentator Skip Bayless has come under online scrutiny for his comment on Donald Trump. During an episode of The Skip Bayless Show, he discussed his views regarding the US Presidential election.
He suggested that many Kamala Harris supporters didn’t hold strong convictions about her, as they viewed the Republican candidate as an extreme figure who shouldn’t return to power. He also added,
“Let me say this about Donald Trump. I do not share a number of his views, maybe many of his views, but I do believe he is a natural-born leader who isn't afraid to make tough decisions and however you want to explain it has been very lucky through his life to see the little scar on his ear as opposed to a whole on his head.”
His comment has welcomed mixed reactions from social media users with one X user writing,
“I guess skip hasn’t been to a diddy party like Shannon.”
Netizens seemed divided regarding the choice as some agreed with Skip Bayless while others said it was wrong.
“This is why we are Team Skip Bayless,” a person commented.
“ATTA BOY SKIP. TRUMP 2024 BABY,” a netizen reacted.
“Your endorsement only solidified my belief that Trump is the wrong choice,” another X user opined.
Internet users agreed with Bayless calling the Republican candidate a tough leader while others called him a racist.
“Also can you point to any examples of Trump showing leadership skills and making tough decisions?” an online user questioned.
“For one I actually agree with you. He is a tough leader and that’s what the world and the USA needs,” a social media user mentioned.
“Knew you were racist,” another person wrote.
“I am a 20+ year listener of yours and I respect your take here. Trump is a George Patton style leader,” a netizen remarked.
Skip Bayless said many Kamala Harris supporters were motivated only because of the opposition to Donald Trump
Discussing the 2024 Presidential Election, Skip Bayless questioned whether Kamala Harris could be the decisive leader the country needs. Regarding Harris, he felt she might be "fine," though perhaps lacking the rare, dynamic qualities he thought the role demanded.
He believed many Harris supporters were motivated by opposition to the Republican candidate rather than enthusiasm for her, suggesting that, for them, she was a default choice.
Bayless also shared doubts about both candidates’ spiritual convictions, feeling unsure if either genuinely sought divine guidance. He admitted this uncertainty unsettled him, describing his instincts as skeptical about their faith.
Reflecting on the Republican candidate, Bayless saw qualities reminiscent of General George Patton, a tough, commanding figure from World War II. While he may not align with the ex-president’s politics, Skip Bayless recognized a strength in Trump that he associated with effective wartime leadership, feeling that, sometimes, preserving freedom might require such a figure.
The commentator also spoke about his faith, expressing his belief in the Bible and his conviction that America's support for Israel was essential to its stability. He noted that he prays for peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict and for the Palestinian victims, though he recognized that peaceful coexistence remains a challenging goal.
