Demi Lovato recently reflected on finding fame at a young age, calling it "bittersweet."

While speaking to Teen Vogue for their September cover, the Disney Channel alum spoke about her forthcoming documentary, Child Star, looking back at a period in her life where she achieved fame early in her career.

"I knew right out the gate that it was a challenging aspect to my life. It was bittersweet because it was all I wanted, and it was miserable."

The singer first appeared in the 1992 kids TV show, Barney & Friends, as a child actor. She then went on to star in Disney Channel's Camp Rock in 2008 as a teen star while also appearing in TV shows; Sonny with a Chance, So Random, and As the Bell Rings.

Demi Lovato looked back on her grueling schedule by the time Camp Rock 2 rolled out in 2010 while she also appeared on Sonny with a Chance. Lovato said that she was isolated, lonely, essentially miserable, and treated people poorly because of that.

"It felt like a separate self, which is why I never fully accepted the validation I was receiving. I felt like I had an imposter syndrome situation going on where...because I was placed in this position as this role model, people are only seeing the good sides of me."

Lovato explained that she felt her fans cheered for a person who was not entirely her.

"My career is completely separate from my identity" - says Demi Lovato

While speaking to People about her upcoming documentary Child Stars, Demi Lovato noted that her career is separate from her identity.

Child Stars documents the life and experiences of former child actors including Drew Barrymore, JoJo Siwa, Kenan Thompson, Raven-Symone, Christina Ricci, and Alyson Stoner.

The singer noted that her brand was a huge part of who she was at the time and she confused the two. Since she was so young, Demi Lovato said she couldn't create a difference between her brand and her as a person.

Previously in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on August 14, Lovato discussed the possibility of not touring again after her last tour Holy Fvck in 2022. While explaining the reason behind this decision, Lovato said:

"It takes a toll on my body, I'm not 15 anymore."

She also discussed her Disney days and said she didn't need the industry as much as she first did.

Child Star will premiere on Hulu on September 17.
