Megan Thee Stallion's Amazon Prime Video documentary is slated to come out on October 31. In the trailer for the documentary, titled Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, the rapper talks about backlash following her mother's demise in 2019, and also touches on being shot by fellow rapper Tory Lanez.

"The shooting, the betrayal, I was definitely getting a little too engulfed in social media....I had really had, like, a real breakdown."

Back in August 2023, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years behind bars after he shot and wounded the Grammy-winning rapper. According to Hollywood Reporter, the incident occurred in July 2020, as she was leaving Kylie Jenner's party. Lanez opened fire at the back of her feet, demanding that she dance. She was consequently forced to get surgery to extract the bullet fragments.

Megan Thee Stallion's shooter Tony Lanez says she was his friend

In a testifying statement during the trial, one of the prosecutors read out, she said:

"Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace. Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

During the trial, Lanez, then 31, expressed his remorse, beckoning for Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford to go easy on him:

"If I could turn back the series of events that night and change them, I would. The victim was my friend. The victim is someone I still care for to this day. Everything I did wrong that night, I take full responsibility for."

Tory Lanez was charged with three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, as well as discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

What is Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words about?

The trailer of her upcoming documentary sees the rapper declaring that she will be canceling all her shows, given that she was "not having fun right now." She continues, questioning how she could "be Megan Thee Stallion, and [she's] not having fun." She added,

"Music has always been in my life. I wouldn’t be here without my mom. My mom was like a gangsta rapper. I was like, ‘When I get older I really want to be like her.' That's when i really started creating Megan Thee Stallion. That was when I was my happiest. And then, my momma, she just passed."

She went on, revealing that she was in "shambles," as the footage depicts her standing over her mother's grave. The latter passed away in 2019 from brain cancer.

"I think I really forgot who I was. And when life started getting crazy, I didn’t have her."

She then segues into recanting the backlash she experienced following the July 2020 shootout, noting that it was too much for her as she felt like "everybody hates" her. She said, with tears welled up in her eyes,

"I had really had like a real breakdown. I think Megan Thee Stallion is trying to protect Megan Pete, and it's time for that part in the movie where I get up off my ass and I do something about it. I want people to understand how this is affecting me. I want people to see how I feel.”

She ended the video with a message to her fans:

"You can get help, there are people that are willing to listen. We gotta holler about it, we gotta scream about it no matter how hard it is. To be heard you have to speak. I've been through so much, I can't give up. I’ve been going through sh*t, but I’ve been getting through sh*t.”

Interspersed with clips of her towards the end, fans can be seen expressing their love for the rapper and cheering her on.
