Maury Povich, 86, a legendary talk show host, embarked on a new journey of becoming a podcaster with On Par With Maury Povich. In the recent episode, he had a heart-to-heart conversation with former ice hockey player Sean Avery, 44.
While chatting, Maury realized that his guest was 44 years old. Recalling his days of being a 44-year-old man, he shared,
"First of all, I was dead broke at 44."
Avery was a bit surprised listening to the host admit his financial status in his 40s. Maury continued,
"I mean, really dead broke."
Maury Povich's parents were worried about their son in his 60s
In a conversation with Avery, Povich walked down a memory lane from decades back when he was a part of A Current Affair. He reminisced,
"Couple of years later, this wild crazy Australian buys the television stations. In a second, I’m off to New York to do this crazy tabloid show called A Current Affair. And the rest is history."
He further chimed in,
"And that show ended up being the biggest show, for the next five years in syndicated television."
The renowned TV personality recalled a memorable gesture of his parents and shared how they were worried.
"My parents, they were so worried. My father was so worried that money just burned through me, that there was a hole in my pocket."
After witnessing his son's tremendous success on television and how he was thriving and growing professionally, his father stopped getting tense.
Maury Povich laughingly shared,
"So that years later, when he’s older, much older, and I’m now doing the talk show and everything’s great. And he says, 'I’m not gonna worry about you anymore.'"
He added how he thinks,
"Everybody should get to the point that their parents don’t have to worry about them anymore. And I was dead in my 50s or 60s before that happened."
Povich announced his retirement from his talk show, Maury, in March 2022. However, he made a comeback to entertain the viewers with his sports podcast, On Par With Maury, the next year.
In April 2023, he and his team released the podcast's first-ever episode. In one episode, Maury Povich's wife, Connie Chung, joined him to talk about "power, press, and partnership. From newsrooms to living rooms, they've each defined an era-and when they meet in the middle, it's pure magic," according to the YouTube video's description.
Maury Povich married Connie Chung in 1984. In 1995, they adopted their son, Matthew Jay Povich, per Wikipedia.
