Terrence Howard, the actor known for his role in Empire, has disclosed that he was an ardent supporter of former President Donald Trump, stating:

“I was all in his corner.”

However, his support dwindled due to the administration's extensive deportation policies earlier this year.

Applauding Trump during his term in office, Howard spoke with the Hollywood Reporter on April 28, where he stated that his support ended mainly during the second term due to the emotional strain he deemed ‘devastating’ because of the mass deportations performed during Trump’s second term.

Howard noted that he supported Trump for the first time because he believed in the man's rhetorical promises of reshaping the political landscape.

“I thought he was going to drain the swamp. I thought maybe, just maybe, he was telling the truth about fighting for the little guy,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Although Howard had not issued political endorsements publicly before, records from the Federal Election Commission suggest that he donated to a pro-Trump political action committee towards the end of 2023.

Howard's narrative changed dramatically after the federal government implemented a sweeping deportation campaign in February of 2025. The Department of Homeland Security and other credible sources have reported that during this campaign, countless undocumented immigrants were systematically deported from the United States.

Howard was emotionally impacted by the action, stating:

“But when I saw those buses, those families being torn apart, I just sat there and cried,” he said in the same interview. “What he did to those families? I couldn’t stand by that.”

In a March 2025 interview with Fox News Sunday, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said:

“We are removing those who have repeatedly violated our borders. It is not cruel; it is our duty.”

So far, there has been no public comment from Trump’s staff responding to Howard’s remarks.

Howard’s comments have contributed to the ongoing public discussion on Trump’s immigration policies in his second term.

Howard ended the conversation by underlining his changed perception.

“I’ve been in this business long enough to know when something is morally wrong. And what I saw... that wasn’t just politics. That was pain. That was real.”
