"I was completely out of control" — Jennifer Coolidge felt "incredibly vulnerable" partying in her early 20s

Jennifer Coolidge-starrer crime comedy feature, Riff Raff, was recently released in theaters across the US.

While the film is still playing in the cinemas, the White Lotus actress spoke to People about the new release. During her chat with the magazine, Jennifer Coolidge recounted the earlier days of her career. The 2 Broke Girls actor opened up about living in New York City before she made it to the show business.

Talking about the time when she was in her early 20s, A Minecraft Movie star told People,

“I got into a lot of trouble… I was just partying in a way that was very extreme and not buckling down and trying to make anything really important happen, you know, getting a career going or anything… I was busy going to the Palladium and stuff like that.”

Jennifer Coolidge summed up her situation by adding,

“I remember it was one of those things where I felt like ... I was completely out of control and I couldn't stop it. I couldn't stop the train.”

The Boston-born actress’ career didn’t commence until 1993. Her first notable TV appearance was in the iconic sitcom Seinfeld. In one of the Season 5 episodes, titled “The Masseuse,” Coolidge appeared as Jerry’s romantic interest.

Jennifer Coolidge’s experiences in her early 20s influenced her career as an actress

The veteran movie and TV star felt that she was “out of control” during her youth in NYC. In her recent chat with People, Coolidge expressed that her experiences at the earlier stages of her life shaped her career while also impacting her personally. She said,

“Somehow I ended up with these roles that are kind of like that… But I know the feeling so well: being on this weird train and incredibly vulnerable in my early 20s. You're so vulnerable, and there's all these kind of weirdos that come out of the woodwork and don't have good intentions.”

She also added,

“And so I feel like I just relived those days in these future jobs I got. How weird is that?”

After debuting in the 1990s, Coolidge went on to star in the American Pie series, Legally Blonde franchise, Date Movie, Promising Young Woman, and many other films. On TV, the actress is known for appearing in 2 Broke Girls, Joey (the Friends spin-off), The White Lotus, and more.

Jennifer Coolidge’s most recent project was Riff Raff, in which she appeared as Ruth, the ex-wife of a former criminal named Vincent (portrayed by Ed Harris). The other actors in the Riff Raff cast include Pete Davidson, Bill Murray, Gabrielle Union, and Lewis Pullman.

The 63-year-old actress will next appear in A Minecraft Movie, which is releasing in April this year. The fantasy adventure film also stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, and Oscar-nominated Danielle Brooks.
